Recipe Notes
The possibilities are endless when it comes to using crescent rolls in dessert recipes! Here are a few tips to keep in mind so your dessert or breakfast Danish comes out perfect every time:
- Try not to overfill the crescent rolls. I know it's tempting, but if you overfill them, the filling will only run out while the crescent rolls bake. And it will create a mess.
- If you're making a stuffed crescent roll breakfast recipe, like my Bacon Crescent Rolls, make sure the rolls are fully sealed after adding the filling.
- I like brushing the tops of the crescent rolls with an egg wash to help make them golden and shiny while they bake. You could also use melted butter.
Can you use puff pastry instead of crescent rolls?
Puff pastry can be used instead of crescent rolls in some recipes. However, it's important to note that the two have different textures and consistencies. Puff pastry is flakier and has a more delicate texture, while crescent rolls are denser and have a slightly sweet flavor.

Substitutions and Variations
- Try with your favorite pie filling to switch it up!
- You can use milk instead of heavy cream for the glaze.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Cream the cream cheese with the sugar and vanilla extract.
Step 2: Separate the dough into 16 triangles and arrange into a ring overlapping the dough to create a sun shape.
Step 3: Fill with cream cheese and apple pie filling.
Step 4: Add the apple pie filling on top of the cream cheese.
Step 5: Fold the dough over the apple filling and tuck the ends under the ring to secure them.
Expert Tip
I like to use a fork to break up the larger chunks of apples in the canned apple pie filling before spreading it over the sweetened cream cheese filling. This will help ensure that the filling is evenly distributed and there aren't any clumps of apple in your recipe.
Step 6: Brush with egg wash.
Step 7: Then sprinkle the top with the remaining granulated sugar.
Baking Instructions
Step 8: Bake at 375°F for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Combine the ingredients for the powdered sugar glaze. Drizzle over the crescent ring.

Recipe FAQ's
Can I make the crescent ring ahead of time?
Yes, you can. Prepare up until the point of baking and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. When ready to bake, take out of the refrigerator for it to come up to room temperature, and bake as directed.
Can you use real apples instead of apple pie filling?
You can substitute real apples in place of the apple pie filling but first cook chopped apples, with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until softened, about 10 minutes.
Storing, Freezing, and Reheating Tips
Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
Reheating Tips: Easily reheat in the microwave in 10 second intervals until heated through.
Freezing: This crescent roll danish is best enjoyed fresh as the delicate layers and creamy filling may not hold up well to freezing.
Top Recipe Tip
Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature before mixing with the sugar. Bake on parchment paper for easy clean up.

Crescent Rolls Apple Pie Filling Cream Cheese
Ingredients
- 2 8 count cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
- 1 20 ounce can apple pie filling
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg white mixed with 1 tablespoon water
- 1-2 tablespoons extra granulated sugar
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the softened cream cheese with the granulated sugar and vanilla extract.
- Unroll both cans of dough; separate into 16 triangles. On a round baking sheet, arrange the triangles in a ring so short sides of triangles form a circle in the center. Dough will probably overlap. The dough ring should look like the sun.
- Spread cream cheese mixture in a circle on top of the crescent roll triangles.
- Spoon apple mixture evenly over cream cheese.
- Bring each dough triangle up over the top of the apple mixture.
- Tuck the ends of the crescent rolls under the bottom of dough to secure it.
- Brush the entire surface with the egg wash and sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown and the dough is thoroughly baked.
- Cool for 5 minutes.
- Prepare the powdered sugar glaze by stirring the milk into the powdered sugar.
- Drizzle over the top of the slightly cooled danish.
