Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry dough, thawed
  • 1 cup canned apple pie filling
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface into a square about 12x12 inches.
  3. Using a pizza cutter, slice the puff pastry into 6 even rectangles.
  4. Place the rectangles on a baking tray that's been lined with parchment paper.
  5. Add about 2 tablespoons of the apple pie filling in the center of each puff pastry rectangle.
  6. Brush the egg yolk around the edges of the puff pastry. This will act as a glue to help you form the pastry.
  7. Fold 2 corners of the dough into the middle over the apple pie filling and then fold the other two corners over and pinch all the corners together.
  8. Place the pastries on the baking tray and place the baking tray in the refrigerator to chill for 15 to 30 minutes.
  9. Brush each pastry with the remaining egg yolk.
  10. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow them to cool for a few minutes on the baking tray and then gently remove them to a cooling rack.
  12. Prepare the glaze by combining the powdered sugar in a bowl with the heavy cram and almond extract.
  13. Use a spoon to drizzle the glaze over the Danishes.

Notes

  • These Danishes are best eaten fresh the day they're made; however if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a day.
  • Reheat in the toaster oven or air fryer for a couple of minutes until warmed through.
  • To freeze, prepare the recipe up until the chilling instructions. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about an hour until the pastries are firm.
  • Once they are flash frozen, wrap them individually in plastic wrap then place them all in a zip top freezer bag and freeze for up to 1 month.
  • When you're ready to bake them, transfer them to the refrigerator to thaw over night or over several hours. Bake according to recipe instructions.
