Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 5 large tart apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • cup sugar
  • 5 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon

For the Crumb Topping

  • cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup cold butter
  • One recipe pie crust.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Roll out the pie crust and place in a pie plate, flute the edges and set aside.
  • Prepare the filling by placing the sliced apples in a bowl. Add the sugar, flour and cinnamon and mix to combine with the apples.
  • Pour the apples into the pie crust.
  • Prepare the topping by combining the flour and sugar in a small bowl. Cut in the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees and then reduce the heat to 350 and bake another 50 - 60 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  • Cool on a wire rack before serving.
