For the Filling
- 5 large tart apples peeled and thinly sliced
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 5 teaspoons all-purpose flour
- 1 ¼ teaspoons ground cinnamon
For the Crumb Topping
- ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cold butter
- One recipe pie crust.
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Roll out the pie crust and place in a pie plate, flute the edges and set aside.
Prepare the filling by placing the sliced apples in a bowl. Add the sugar, flour and cinnamon and mix to combine with the apples.
Pour the apples into the pie crust.
Prepare the topping by combining the flour and sugar in a small bowl. Cut in the butter until crumbly. Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees and then reduce the heat to 350 and bake another 50 - 60 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
Cool on a wire rack before serving.
