box yellow cake mix

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Add the chopped apples to a large bowl.
Stir together the pumpkin pie spice and ground cinnamon in a smaller bowl.
Toss the spice mixture together with the chopped apples. Then add the brown sugar and stir to combine.
Add pumpkin and stir to combine.
Pour mixture into a 9 x 13 baking dish and spread evenly.
Add the entire box of yellow cake mix on top of the apple mixture. Spread evenly.
Drizzle the butter over the top of the cake mix.
Place the baking dish in the oven for 45 minutes. The cake is done with the syrup is bubbly and the topping is brown and crisp.
Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Top with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel drizzle (optional).
Notes
Do not stir the cake mix with the apple and pumpkin mixture.
The recipe will not work if you stir the layers together.
