Okay, I need your help here.
What do YOU call this?
Growing up in Queens, NY we called them
GUARD RAILS.
Since I've moved to PA, I've noticed that they're referred to
as GUIDE rails.
I cannot bring myself to calling them guide rails.
At least I'm grateful we have them.
I would have a HUGE problem traveling this road.
As you can see there is NOTHING to keep you from falling
off the road and down the cliff.
Please leave a comment and let me know what they're called where you live!

Be absent-minded for a moment and enjoy a free-falling till death.

Guard rails-maybe it depends on which part of PA, since 45 years of my life were spent in SW PA.

Hi, just found your blog and think it is so interesting.
Where I lived in northwestern PA we called them guard rails. Now I live in central PA and they are called guide rails. I figured that the name was changed for some reason. Didn't know some places still refer to them as guard rails. I need to get out more!

Guard rails is the only thing I've ever heard them called--whether here in the corn or when we lived in the southwest.
Katrina @ mommyninetimes.blogspot.com says
They are called guard rails here in southern CA
Sandra says
Guard rails as I don't want to be guided down the road by sliding alongside them. As to that high road, is it in South America? Brazil or Peru, perhaps? I'm happy not traveling that road as well.

Guard rail is what I call them in Texas. I wouldn't be traveling on that steep road with a guard or guide or any kind of rail! YIKES! Fear of heights here.

I have always called them guard rails too. Though they do seem a little bit flimsy when you are up in the mountains and a sheer drop off is on the other side of them:)

Hey Lois,
To answer your question about the flooring. I don't have that problem. I use water and an organic cleaner on the floor. I don't let water sit on it.
I have lots of company so there is always someone walking on it. Not sure why you would have that problem. Sorry!

In Mississippi they are guard rails. I'm afraid of heights so I don't think would get out much if I had to travel that road!

Growing up in NY we called them Guard Rails. This is the first time I have heard the term guide rail. That photo reminds me of driving down the coast in CA. I was so scared when my husband drove on the west coast that I had to put the seat down and not look out the window. I am clueless as to what the coast line looks like in CA:-)

That last road would not work for me either, yet we traveled up a mountain
on a short road that had areas that had no guard rails in North Carolina on vacation. Needless to say it caused us a bit of anxiety everytime we had to leave and come back to our cabin!! We did however, get used to it out of necessity, but it certainly wasn't as high as that mountain!!
Never heard of guide rails!!
New one on me!
Hope you are doing well hon,
Blessings, Nellie

We call them guard rails around here Lois, and like you I like calling them that. What a beautiful picture, but there is no way I would ever travel it, I mean no way! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lois,
I've always know them to be guard rails but I was raised in NY like you. Judging by all the comments most people call them that as well. Hugs

We call them guard rails here in NE.
I hope that is not a road that you have to go on very often, especially in the winter or rainy season.
I would find a new route real quickly. So scarrrrry!!!!

I don't think I could travel that road, although years ago I drove up Pike's Peak in the Rockies with no "Guardrails". That's what I call them.
