Recently a 98 year-old lady named Irena died.
During WWII, Irena, received permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto.
She worked as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an 'ulterior motive.'
Being German, she KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews.
But Irena had a plan of her own.
She smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried into work.
She placed her tool box in the back of her truck.
She used a burlap sack for larger kids.
She also had a dog in the back of the truck that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to
smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived
and reunite the family.
Most had been gassed.
The kids she helped were placed in foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving.
Think about what you do today, you could change the life of someone.
Maybe we're all not an 'Irena.'
But we can all tell someone about the saving grace of Jesus
and save them from an eternity of hell.
Think about it.
ETERNITY.
Think about the people you come in contact with every day.
I know I am.

I have never heard this story and loved it.

Wow, Irena was already an angel while she was walking on this earth. Shame on the people who decide who gets the Peace Prize. Thanks for posting this story about her. I had heard it before, but it is so good to be reminded. The world must never forget this precious woman. I wish everyone was like her!

We saw a movie on her. It was fascinating. Al Gore 🙁
That's all I have to say about him!!

Oh good grief! Isn't that just like our country to recognize someone like Gore over someone so wonderful as this sweet lady. Well, we know that she will surely be recognized with the ONE who matters the most. Our heavenly father!
Thanks for sharing this inspiring story with us. Need that encouragement.
Hugs.

This Country has really got the cart before the horse!
I was so touched by this post, I don't have the words to tell you what this story has meant to me. Years ago I read the book, The Hiding Place, and it touched me as much. Thank you so much for sharing.

What a wonderful story! I've always thought that Al Gore was a big Goose! That's being nice by the way. Too bad that such things are so "politically" motivated. Thanks for stopping by. Hope that your fall shopping is fun and rewarding.

Thanks so much for this post, Lois! It just blew me away. wow!
Even though we know that this world's award system is often turned "upside down", we know the rewards in Heaven will be great:)
Thanks for your encouragement to do what we can for Eternity where we are. I need to hear that often:)
Thanks for coming by and leaving your sweet comments at my place:)

I think Irena's gift of life is much more important than the Nobel Peace Prize. Thank you posting about her. She was definitely a hero. And her face is so full of love, caring and peace. Al Gore may think he is doing a major part. But I believe Irena did much more in choosing other's lives first instead of thinking of the consequences it could have resulted in for her own.

I received this in an email today and had thought of doing a post on her as well ... it's unbelievable isn't it!?
She sounds like she was an amazing woman!

Thank you so much for sharing this. As a grandchild of a large, mixed faith family (my grandmother is Jewish) I think it's important to be aware of history (in religion and in the world) in all it's aspects. I encourage my kids to be aware of the Holocaust as well... and this act of bravery is so very important to remember; I looked it up even further and invited the kids over to read about Irena on your page and other resources. Found that the awarded her with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian award posthumously, and she is well-remembered. I'm glad. Thanks again for showing this to us.

what an amazing women, god has angels everywhere doesn;t he"-) Would have been wonderful to have met and spoken to this wonderful lady.
Yeah Al Gore , won;t even go there. Iknow .
Jess says
Wow! I had never heard about her.
I'll definitely send people to read this wonderful post.
It really encouraged me in my work at the Pregnancy Care Center! Without these small centers (3000 across the nation) women wouldn't have options when facing a crisis pregnancy.
Without accurate information about abortion procedures, community referrals, practical assistance, emotional support and the option of adoption, millions of women feel they have only one choice.
As believers, we can all pray, give and serve to protect lives in our town, state and country.
Thank you for reminding me how important it is to SAVE a life!

Olde Dame Penniwig says
The Nobel prizes are highly coveted, but hardly fair. In fact, orginally, due to jealousy, Alfred Nobel did not have a prize for mathematics. So it's been pretty tainted from the get-go. This lovely woman deserved that Peace Prize. I am sure that Israel honored her with Righteous Among the Nations, though...it's a big prize there...she got some other recognition, too, some big stuff...the Audrey Hepburn award and such...gosh, just one person and what a difference she made.
Mandy in Mayberry says
That story ran in one of our local papers . . . unbelievable.
Thanks for sharing your heart along with that great story!

Great post! It's sad when the world chooses those to be honored on the basis of popularity. What a wonderful tribute to this amazing woman. We could all learn from the example she set. If anyone deserves to be honored she certainly does.

Morning Sunshine,
I have seen that story about Irena.
What a loving and dear woman she was, and all those children she saved. God Bless her!!
Well, she might not have gotten the reward here, but I am sure God gave her the "Good and Faithful Servant" Award when she got to heaven! Can't wait to meet her. Thanks for sharing that with us, it was great! And we do need to think daily about how God would
use us to bless someone elses life.
After all, that is why we are here.
Have a great day hon,
Blessings, Nellie

At Home With Amy says
Irena may not be a winner of the Nobel Prize but she is definitely a winner in the eyes all the children she helped to save. What love and compassion she showed for these poor helpless children. God definitely had a plan in mind for her life and she did her best to carry that plan out.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.
Blessings,
AMY

I read her story recently. Thanks for doing this wonderful post.
It seems the most deserving don't get the recognition.
We can choose to be a light in a dark world and a helping hand along the way.

What a great example she was to the world...even her smile radiates love.
Just found out last night about a friend who is much like Irena in all her ways but Cheryl is only 50 yrs. old, lives alone (but has many friends helping her during the day when the health person is not there) and has breast cancer that has spread everywhere. Please keep this loving person in prayer.
