Recently a 98 year-old lady named Irena died.
During WWII, Irena, received permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto.
She worked as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an 'ulterior motive.'
Being German, she KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews.
But Irena had a plan of her own.
She smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried into work.
She placed her tool box in the back of her truck.
She used a burlap sack for larger kids.
She also had a dog in the back of the truck that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to
smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived
and reunite the family.
Most had been gassed.
The kids she helped were placed in foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving.
Think about what you do today, you could change the life of someone.
Maybe we're all not an 'Irena.'
But we can all tell someone about the saving grace of Jesus
and save them from an eternity of hell.
Think about it.
ETERNITY.
Think about the people you come in contact with every day.
I know I am.

Great post! It's sad when the world chooses those to be honored on the basis of popularity. What a wonderful tribute to this amazing woman. We could all learn from the example she set. If anyone deserves to be honored she certainly does.

Morning Sunshine,
I have seen that story about Irena.
What a loving and dear woman she was, and all those children she saved. God Bless her!!
Well, she might not have gotten the reward here, but I am sure God gave her the "Good and Faithful Servant" Award when she got to heaven! Can't wait to meet her. Thanks for sharing that with us, it was great! And we do need to think daily about how God would
use us to bless someone elses life.
After all, that is why we are here.
Have a great day hon,
Blessings, Nellie

Irena may not be a winner of the Nobel Prize but she is definitely a winner in the eyes all the children she helped to save. What love and compassion she showed for these poor helpless children. God definitely had a plan in mind for her life and she did her best to carry that plan out.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.
Blessings,
AMY

A Hint of Home says
I read her story recently. Thanks for doing this wonderful post.
It seems the most deserving don't get the recognition.
We can choose to be a light in a dark world and a helping hand along the way.

What a great example she was to the world...even her smile radiates love.
Just found out last night about a friend who is much like Irena in all her ways but Cheryl is only 50 yrs. old, lives alone (but has many friends helping her during the day when the health person is not there) and has breast cancer that has spread everywhere. Please keep this loving person in prayer.
blessings and hugs,
