Recently a 98 year-old lady named Irena died.
During WWII, Irena, received permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto.
She worked as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an 'ulterior motive.'
Being German, she KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews.
But Irena had a plan of her own.
She smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried into work.
She placed her tool box in the back of her truck.
She used a burlap sack for larger kids.
She also had a dog in the back of the truck that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.
The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to
smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.
She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard.
After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived
and reunite the family.
Most had been gassed.
The kids she helped were placed in foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
The prize doesn't always go to the most deserving.
Think about what you do today, you could change the life of someone.
Maybe we're all not an 'Irena.'
But we can all tell someone about the saving grace of Jesus
and save them from an eternity of hell.
Think about it.
ETERNITY.
Think about the people you come in contact with every day.
I know I am.

I am here from Yaak Adventures. Thanks for sharing this amazing story. Praise the Lord! It made me cry. I can't believe she didn't get selected. What a backwards world we live in.
Blessings,

Wow! What an awesome story! I have chillbumps still, and tears in my eyes. Thanks for the thought-provoking post. Yes, as Christians, we need to be thinking every day what WE can do to serve our Lord.
This story will stick with me for a while....

What a wonderful story! I've always thought that Al Gore was a big Goose! That's being nice by the way. Too bad that such things are so "politically" motivated. Thanks for stopping by. Hope that your fall shopping is fun and rewarding.

Thanks so much for this post, Lois! It just blew me away. wow!
Even though we know that this world's award system is often turned "upside down", we know the rewards in Heaven will be great:)
Thanks for your encouragement to do what we can for Eternity where we are. I need to hear that often:)
Thanks for coming by and leaving your sweet comments at my place:)
Hugs,
Linda

I think Irena's gift of life is much more important than the Nobel Peace Prize. Thank you posting about her. She was definitely a hero. And her face is so full of love, caring and peace. Al Gore may think he is doing a major part. But I believe Irena did much more in choosing other's lives first instead of thinking of the consequences it could have resulted in for her own.
