👩🍳How to make Donut Holes with Biscuits
- You can use any type of biscuit dough, but I suggest avoiding the flaky layers kind as it tends to separate when fried.
- Pay attention to the oil temperature because if it's too high, the donut holes will brown too quickly and be doughy inside.
- On the other hand, if the temperature is too low, the donut holes will absorb too much oil and become greasy.
- A deep fry thermometer can come in handy.

💡 Substitutions and Variations
- Instead of the cinnamon sugar coating, you can dust the donut holes with powdered sugar.
- Or if you prefer a glazed donut hole, dip them in a vanilla glaze by combining 2 cups of powdered sugar, ¼ cup milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Step 1: Cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces, and roll them into balls. Heat the oil to 350°F and fry a few dough balls at a time until brown on all sides. Remove and drain on a cooling rack or paper towels.
📌Quick Tip: Test the oil temperature by frying one donut hole to begin with. Test until you find the perfect temperature.
- Step 2: Combine the sugar and cinnamon together. Roll the donut holes in the sugar mixture.
- Step 3: Make the chocolate dipping sauce by microwaving the chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream together for about 30-45 seconds. Stir until smooth.
Step 3: Once the chocolate is melted, dip the donut holes and enjoy!

🍶Storage Tips
- Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
❄️Freezing Tips
- Make sure the donut holes have completely cooled after frying. Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet to flash freeze them. Once they're firm, add them to a freezer zip top bag and freezer for up to 2 months.
- Reheat in the microwave in 15 second increments or in the air fryer until heated through.
➡️Top Recipe Tip
- To make sure the donut holes aren't doughy inside, fry one and take it out of the oil.
- Cut it open to check if it's cooked through. If it's still doughy, lower the temperature by 25 degrees and try another donut hole.
- Keep testing until you find the perfect frying temperature for the donut holes.
- There are various factors that can affect the outcome, so a quick test is the ideal way to guarantee the best results.
Although they won't have the same texture and flavor of deep fried donuts, they can be cooked in the air fryer at 375°F for about 6 or 7 minutes. Coat them in melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. It'll taste more like a cinnamon sugar biscuit, but still delicious, and a little easier.
No, olive oil has a lower smoke point, so it's not ideal for deep frying. It also will impart its flavor into the donut, so I suggest a neutral flavored oil like vegetable, canola, peanut, or safflower oil.

Homemade Donut Holes with Biscuits
Ingredients
- 1 8 count can buttermilk Pillsbury Grands biscuits
- vegetable oil for deep frying
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Chocolate Dipping Sauce:
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
Instructions
- Open the package of biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
- Heat a large heavy pot over medium-high heat and add vegetable oil to 1-inch depth. Heat the oil to 350°F.
- Drop a few dough balls into the oil and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the donut holes from the oil and place on a cooling rack or paper towels to drain off excess oil and cool slightly. Repeat this process with the remaining dough balls, frying in small batches until all are cooked.
- On a plate or in a shallow bowl, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon. Roll the donut holes in the sugar mixture.
- To make the chocolate dipping sauce, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and heaving whipping cream in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30-45 seconds until the chocolate is fully melted. Stir the mixture until smooth.
