Substitutions and Variations
Swap the chips: Instead of using Doritos or Fritos, try tortilla chips, or even baked chips for a lighter option.
Change the protein: Substitute ground beef with ground turkey, shredded chicken, or taco-seasoned beans.
Make it vegetarian: Skip the meat and add extra beans, corn, or sautéed peppers and onions.
Adjust the toppings: Add lettuce, diced tomatoes, olives, or green onions for more variety. My recipe for Homemade Guacamole would be delicious with this recipe too.
Control the spice: Leave out jalapeños or use mild salsa for a milder version, or add hot sauce for extra heat.
Serve it your way: Instead of individual bags, layer everything in a bowl like I do with my Taco Salad Bowls.
Hint: When preparing the taco meat, try using my Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix for extra flavor.

Insider Tips from My Kitchen to Yours
✔️ DO warm the taco meat, beans, and cheese before assembling so everything melts together nicely.
❌ DO NOT overfill the bags, or they can tear and become difficult to mix and eat.

Storage & Serving Tips
Refrigerate: Store leftover taco meat, beans, and toppings in separate airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Chips are best kept at room temperature in their original packaging.
Freezer: The assembled walking tacos do not freeze well. You can freeze the cooked taco meat separately in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
Thaw and Reheat: Thaw frozen taco meat in the refrigerator overnight. Reheat in a skillet or microwave until warmed through before assembling.
Serving Tips: Serve ingredients buffet-style so everyone can build their own walking tacos. Add toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, or extra cheese for variety.
