Do you brush puff pastry with egg or butter?
Brushing puff pastry before baking is essential for a light and flaky texture. To get the best results, many recipes call for the pastry to be brushed with an egg wash.
An egg wash is simply an egg mixed with a tablespoon of milk or water. It will create a glossy and golden finish to the finished recipe. Some people also like to sprinkle sugar on top for a nice look.
Can you defrost puff pastry in the microwave?
Yes, it is possible to defrost puff pastry in the microwave, however, you need to do it slowly so the pastry doesn't become soggy. It could also start to cook in the middle if you defrost it too fast.
To defrost puff pastry in the microwave, place one sheet at a time on a microwavable plate and set the power on low. You should check your puff pasty regularly while it is defrosting and once it begins to soften, quickly flip over and rotate the sheet so that both sides thaw evenly before finally taking out of the microwave once fully softened.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Step 2: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Using a round cookie cutter, cut out 18 circles of dough.
- Step 3: In a small bowl, mix together the water and egg. Use a small pastry brush to brush the bottom of each puff pastry circle.
- Step 3: Place a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in the center of each of the puff pastry circles.
- Step 4: Place the remaining 9 dough circles on top of the peanut butter cups and use a fork to pinch together both pastry circles.
- Step 5: Brush the top of each circle with the remaining egg wash. Then sprinkle with a little extra sugar.
- Step 6: Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
Quick Tip: Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. This will make sure the dough goes into the oven cold which will give the dough a better and bigger puff as it bakes.

- Remove from the oven and allow the puff pastry circles to cool.
