These Valentine's Day Cookies are made using a simple cookie dough with a cute heart-shaped imprint filled with raspberry jam.
They're a cute variation of a classic thumbprint cookie that's the perfect Valentine's Day Recipe to make for your sweetie!
This recipe uses raspberry jam like I used with my Raspberry Shortbread Thumbprint Cookies. But you could use Strawberry jam which would also be nice for Valentine's Day.
These Valentine's Day Cookies can also be called "double thumbprint" cookies because you need to use more than just one thumbprint to make the heart shape in the middle. Some people make the heart shapes by pressing their thumbs in one direction and then slightly rotating the cookie and making another imprint to form the heart.
Another idea would be to also use a small heart shaped cookie cutter to lightly impress the heart shape in the middle.

Thumbprint Cookies
Most thumbprint cookies are made using your thumb or a circle impression. When I make them, I usually use the back of a melon ball scoop to get the perfect circle shape.
Then you fill the center of the cookie with jam like I did with my Christmas Thumbprint Cookies. You can also use melted chocolate or a candy Kiss like I did with my Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies.
I even made Halloween Thumbprint Cookies filling the center with a googly eye!
Thumbprint Cookie Recipe
Thumbprint cookies use classic cookie recipes like sugar, shortbread or peanut butter. I've made thumbprint cookies using a peppermint dough like my Peppermint Blossom Cookies for Christmas.

🥣Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 | Combine the Ingredients
- Cream together the butter and both the brown and white sugar.
- Add the egg yolk and vanilla extract.
- Add the flour, cornstarch and salt to the wet ingredients.
- Combine until it forms a soft dough.
Step 2 | Make the Heart Shaped Thumbprints
- Divide the dough into 24 pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
- Using the bottom of a fork, press diagonally into one end of the cookie ball and then rotate the fork and press again until you have made a heart shape.
- Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and place the tray in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Step 3 | Fill with Raspberry Jam
- While the cookies are chilling, prepare the jam.
- Add the jam to a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it up in the microwave for about 10 seconds. You just want to warm the jam up a little so it's easier to add to the unbaked cookies.
- Remove the cookies from the refrigerator and fill the imprints with the jam.
Step 4 | Baking Instructions
- Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are slightly browned.
- Allow the cookies to cool before enjoying.

Substitutions and Variations
- You can fill the cookies with Nutella, melted white chocolate or melted milk chocolate. Even melted caramel would be nice inside the heart imprints.
- If you choose to use aa filling other than jam, you'll need to fill the cookies after they have baked.
- Drizzle the baked cookies with melted chocolate or a powdered sugar glaze.

Storage Tips
- Store the baked cookies once they have cooled completely in an air-tight container.
- Place parchment paper between the layers.
- You can freeze the cookies as well by flash freezing them on a baking tray for 30 minutes. Store them in an air-tight container for up to 3 months.
Top Tip
- You can fill the cookies before or after baking.
- If you decide to fill them after baking, you will need to make the heart shape imprints again immediately after they come out of the oven.

- Remove the cookies from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack.
- Allow the cookies to cool before enjoying.
Notes
- My cookies were done in 11 minutes.
- You can use any flavor jam you like.
