Where is puff pastry kept in the grocery store?
Puff pastry is kept in the freezer section of a grocery store. In my local grocery store it's next to the frozen whipped topping. It should be stored in the freezer at home as well until you're ready to use it.
When you need to use it for a recipe, pull it out of the freezer and allow it to defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
While working with the dough, you want it to still be cold to that you can slice it without crushing the layers of dough and butter.
What to do with one sheet of puff pastry?
This recipe uses two sheets of puff pastry. However, the package of puff pastry comes with two sheets wrapped together in paper. So what do you do with the other sheet if you only need to use one sheet?
I wrap the extra sheet up in first plastic wrap and then aluminum foild. Then I place it inside a plastic storage bag and place that back in the freezer.
Don't forget to label the bag; it'll save you time and guesswork in the future.

How to Melt the Chocolate
- Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Add the vegetable oil.
- Melt in the microwave in intervals of 30 seconds until the chocolate chips are melted and smooth.
- Set aside to cool while you prepare the cream cheese mixture.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the heavy cream.
Step 2: Add the powdered sugar and beat until smooth.
Step 3: Add the vanilla extract.
Step 4: Once everything is combined stir in the melted chocolate.
Prepare the Puff Pastry
Step 5: Unfold one of the pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Lightly press out the fold seams using a rolling pin.
Step 6: Spread the chocolate cream cheese mixture over the surface of the sheet of puff pastry.
Step 7: Unfold and press out the fold seams on the other sheet of puff pastry. Place this sheet on top of the chocolate cream cheese sheet. Gently press both pieces together.
Twist the Puff Pastry
Step 8: Using a sharp knife, slice the puff pastry into 12 strips. Then twist each stip and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Pinch them securely on each end.
Add the Egg Wash
Step 9: Brush the edges with the egg wash. Then sprinkle with a little extra sugar. Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
Top Tip
Place the tray in the refrigerator to chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking. This will make sure the dough goes into the oven cold which will give the dough a better and bigger puff as it bakes.
Baking Instructions
Step 10: Bake in a preheated 400°F oven for 15 to 17 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown. Allow the chocolate twists to cool completely before adding the glaze. If you add it too soon, it will melt from the heat of the pastries.
Add the Powdered Sugar Glaze
Step 11: Combine the powdered sugar, vanilla extra and milk together. Drizzle on top of the cooled chocolate puff pastry twists.

Prep Ahead Tips
This dessert is best served while they're fresh. However, you can easily prepare this recipe a few hours before you plan to serve them. Wrap the tray in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until 30 to 60 minutes before you want to serve them.
Storage Tips
Chocolate Puff Pastry Twists should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They will remain fresh like this for about a day. However, as with most puff pastry recipes, they are best eaten fresh.
Baked puff pastry recipes generally do not freeze well, as they tend to become soggy or lose their flakiness when thawed.
Top Tip
Make sure the melted chocolate is slightly cooled before adding it to the cream cheese mixture.
