Recipe Notes
- Keep the dips chilled before, during and after serving! Most dips are made with dairy products such as sour cream, cream cheese and even mayonnaise. They should be kept chilled until serving to prevent them from going bad. If it's warm outside when you're serving, you can place the bowl with the dip over ice to keep the dip cool.
- Offer a variety of dippers such as chips, crackers, bread, veggies, and especially fruit. This will appeal to different taste preferences and dietary restrictions.
- When serving dips outdoors, make sure to keep them covered to protect them from bugs and debris.
- Discard any leftover dip that's been sitting outside for more than two hours.
Fun Tip for Serving Dips
If you're serving multiple dips for your patriotic celebration, consider setting up a fun "dip" station. Also try to label the different dips so your guests know exactly what they're dipping into.
How long can the dip sit out during the BBQ before it goes bad?
You should not let a dip sit out for more than two hours at room temperature. If it's over 90°F outside, dips shouldn't be left out for more than an hour. You can extend the time by placing the dip over a bowl of ice or inside a chilled container.
