Recipe Notes
For perfect brownies, wait until they're completely cool before cutting! This lets them firm up and keeps them from crumbling when you slice them.
Also, try using a plastic knife to slice the brownies can aid in achieving clean and smooth cuts. Plastic knives are naturally non-stick, allowing them to glide through the brownies without dragging or catching, resulting in neat slices without tearing up the brownies.
You can also try using an electric knife An electric knife can create neater cuts without applying pressure that might damage the delicate texture.

What internal temperature are brownies done?
- Fudgy brownies with a moist and gooey center are done at 160°F.
- Chewy brownies is the most popular texture and are done when the internal temperature reaches 180°F. These brownies will have a soft and chewy center.
- Cakey brownies will have a firmer texture, more like a cake than a fudge and are done at 210°F.
Check the internal temperature using a digital meat thermometer like the one below:
Can I use butter instead of oil in boxed brownie mix?
Yes. Adding melted butter in place of the oil will give the brownies a richer flavor. Substitute the same amount of butter for the oil.

Substitutions and Variations
- You can make homemade brownies from scratch if you'd prefer.
- For a "Rocky Road" version, add your favorite nuts like chopped pecans or walnuts. You could even use the pastel peanut M&M's!
- Instead of pastel M&M's, try Cadbury mini eggs.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven and line your baking pan with parchment paper. Prepare the brownies according to the box instructions.
Step 2: Top the baked brownies with mini marshmallows. Regular sized marshmallows is not recommended for this recipe as they will take too long to melt.
Quick Tip
Skip the greasing! Line your pan with parchment paper for effortless removal of your brownies (or any bar cookies) after baking.
Step 3: Bake until the marshmallows are melted. Remove and top with the M&M's.
Step 4: Melt the chocolate chips then drizzle on top of the brownies. Let cool completely before slicing.
