What chocolate to use for chocolate covered pretzels?
For the best results, use high-quality chocolate when making chocolate-covered pretzel sticks. Use either dark or semi-sweet chocolate for a more rich and indulgent flavor, or white chocolate for a more subtle taste.
Be sure to melt the chocolate slowly in a double boiler or in the microwave so it doesn't burn. Once melted, dip the pretzel sticks in, allow to dry and enjoy!

How to dip chocolate covered pretzels?
There are a few ways to dip pretzels in melted chocolate. Depending on the size of the pretzels, you can simply place them on a fork and dip them into melted chocolate.
Then shake off any excess chocolate before placing it on parchment paper. I show you exactly how to do this in my How to Melt Chocolate post.
For this recipe, we're not dipping the pretzels but drizzling the pretzels with melted chocolate. To make these adorable Christmas trees, simply arrange one pretzel stick on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Then drizzle the melted chocolate back and forth across the pretzel stick forming the shape of a tree. Add decorations like sprinkles like my other Chocolate Covered Pretzel recipe.
How to Melt Chocolate
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate according to the instructions on the back of the package.
- Then add the melted chocolate to a disposable decorating bag or chocolate drizzle bottle.

Step 4: You want to do this step before the chocolate starts to harden or they won't stick.

Top Recipe Tips
- It's really important that you use a sturdy pretzel, which is why I recommend Utz Pretzel Sticks.
- I like to use chocolate almond bark, but you can substitute chocolate chip morsels or candy melts.
- Over the years I've purchased a few squeeze bottles to put the melted chocolate in. They help give the perfect drizzle effect!
- Make sure you let the pretzels harden completely on parchment paper. Don't try to use aluminum foil, the pretzels will stick.
- Store in airtight containers before packaging up for friends and family.
