Cupcake Baking Tips for Perfect Results
- Bring ingredients to room temperature before mixing for a smoother batter and lighter cupcakes.
- Lightly spray cupcake liners with non-stick baking spray so the cupcakes release easily when serving.
- Use a cookie scoop (about ¼ cup) to evenly portion the batter for consistent cupcake sizes.
- Fill liners about two-thirds full to prevent overflowing and help create nicely domed tops.
- Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting so it doesn’t melt or slide off. Place on a wire rack or chill briefly to speed up cooling.
Storage and Freezing Tips
Storage Tips
- Store unfrosted cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to 5 days and bring to room temperature before serving.
- Frosted cupcakes should be stored in the refrigerator, especially if using buttercream or cream cheese frosting. Let them sit at room temperature for about 20–30 minutes before serving for best texture.
Freezing Tips
- For best results, freeze cupcakes without frosting or decorations.
- Allow cupcakes to cool completely, then place them on a baking tray and freeze for about 30 minutes until firm. Transfer to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag and store for up to 3 months.
- Thaw overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature, then frost and decorate before serving.

Try not to overmix the batter. When you do that, the air bubbles will collapse giving you a dense cupcake. Also, be sure not to overbake the cupcakes as well. This can cause them to be dry.
