Tips for Making Homemade Granola
- You need to use fat. I like to use regular cooking oil, but you can use coconut oil too.
- Make sure you use old fashioned rolled oats and not quick cooking oats.
- Add your favorite stir in's after the granola has cooked and cooled.
What to Add to Homemade Granola
My family likes to keep it pretty plain, but you can add quite a few different stir in's to make your granola even tastier:
- Chopped Pecans or Walnuts
- Mini Chocolate Chips
- Dried fruit - my favorite is dried cranberries
- Sesame Seeds, Chia Seeds or Flax Seeds
How to Store Homemade Granola
- Store the granola in a mason jar or a plastic container after it has cooled.
- Use a Mason Jar Funnel to help you get the granola into the mason jar without spilling all over.
- Homemade granola will keep fresh for up to two weeks.

Wow! I've made my own granola before but never on the stovetop! It sounds a lot faster and easier. I really don't like turning my oven on, especially in the hot days!
