Recipe FAQ
It is a common misconception that mandarin oranges and oranges are the same fruit. In fact, they are two different varieties of citrus fruits. Mandarin oranges are smaller and tarter than oranges, with a thin, easy-to-peel skin. They are also believed to have originated in China, hence their name.
In contrast, oranges are larger and sweeter than mandarin oranges, with a thicker skin that is more difficult to peel. While mandarin oranges can be eaten fresh, they are often used in infused water drink recipes due to their distinct flavor. So, next time you're at the grocery store, be sure to pick up the right citrus fruit for your needs.
Recipe Variations
- Substitute the lime juice for lemon juice.
- If you can't find mandarin oranges, you can definitely use traditional oranges.
- Try adding your favorite herbs to the simple syrup for a different flavor. Rosemary, Thyme, Rosemary or Sage would be delicious!
