Peanut Butter Heart Cookies

This recipe is very similar to a traditional blossom cookie. I used heart shaped cookies filled with a creamy peanut butter center!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: In a bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, and sugars until smooth. Beat in the egg, milk, and vanilla.

Step 2: Combine the dry ingredients in another bowl. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients with the peanut butter mixture until everything is combined.

Top Tips

  • Make sure the butter is at room temperature before creaming it with the sugar and peanut butter.
  • Place the dough in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes. This will help firm up the dough so it's easier to work with and shape into the balls.

Step 3: Roll dough into balls, then roll in sugar. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart and bake at 375°F for 8-10 minutes.

Step 4: Remove the cookies from the oven and press a heart shaped candy into the center of each cookie. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes and then remove to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Why are my peanut butter blossoms dry?

Peanut butter blossom or peanut butter cookies can be dry because they lack moisture...which is why this recipe adds 2 tablespoons of milk to the batter.

Storage Tips

Room Temperature: Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature. This will help keep the candies nice and soft. Adding a slice of bread to the container can help the cookies from becoming dry over time. The bread adds moisture to the container.

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ½ cup butter; softened
    • ¾ cup creamy peanut butter
    • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
    • ⅓ cup light brown sugar; packed
    • 1 egg
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • Extra ⅓ cup granulated sugar for rolling the cookie balls in
    • 24 heart shaped chocolate candies

    Instructions

    • In the bowl of a stand mixer or using a hand mixer, cream the butter and peanut butter together.
    • Add both sugars and mix until blended.
    • In a separate bowl, mix together the egg, milk and vanilla and add to the stand mixer. 
    • Continue to mix until everything is combined and smooth.
    • Combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
    • Once combined, add the flour mixture to the peanut mixture one cup at a time, beating between each addition.
    • Place the dough in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes.
    • While the dough is chilling, preheat oven to 375°F and prepare a baking sheet by lining with parchment paper.
    • After the dough has chilled, use a tablespoon size cookie scoop to scoop out dough and form each scoop into a ball.
    • Place the extra ⅓ cup granulated sugar in a small bowl and roll each dough ball in the sugar until coated. 
    • Place each coated dough ball on the prepared baking sheet two inches apart to allow for spreading.
    • Bake cookies 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown and puffy.
    • Remove the cookies from the oven and press a chocolate heart-shaped candy into the center of each cookie.
    • Allow the cookies  to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes before removing to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
