Main Ingredients Needed
This is an overview of the ingredients and instructions. Be sure to see the recipe card below for exact quantities, detailed instructions and special notes.
- 1 box white cake mix; 15.25 ounce size
- Vegetable oil
- Eggs
- Almond extract
- White Chocolate Candy Melts
- Christmas Sprinkles
Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1 | Combine the Ingredients
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the dry cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs and almond extract.

Baking Tip: It’s always best to refrigerate the dough as it’s easier to work with chilled dough. Cake mix cookies tend to be a little stickier than traditional cookie dough because of the added oil.
Step 2 | Scoop Cookies on Baking Tray
- Use a cookie scoop to place the cookies on baking trays lined with parchment paper.
- The cookie might be a little stickier than traditional cookie dough, so take your time.
- Do not overcrowd the trays. The cookies will spread as they cook. You can see I only added 6 scoops of cookie dough to each baking tray.

Step 3 | Baking Instructions
- Bake about 10-12 minutes, or until set in the middle and slightly browned around the edges.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.

Step 4 | How to Decorate the Cookies
- Melt the candy melts according to the package directions.
- I always use the microwave method listed on the back of the package.

- Dip one half of the cookies into the melted white chocolate and then add the colorful Christmas sprinkles.
- The sprinkles make these white cake mix cookies look perfect for Christmas, right?

Tips for Baking Cake Mix Cookies
- Do not over-mix the batter.
- If the batter is too soft, chill the dough for about 30 minutes before placing on baking trays.
- Use silicon baking mats or parchment baking sheets on the baking trays to keep the cookies from sticking.
- Do not over-bake the cookies!

Tips for Storing Cake Mix Cookies
- Once baked, store the cake mix cookies in air-tight containers for up to two weeks.
- To freeze the cookies, simply place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and “flash freeze” them until they are solid, around 30 to 60 minutes.
- Then place the cookies in an air-tight container with parchment or waxed paper in between each layer to keep the cookies from sticking to each other.
- You can freeze the cookies this way for up to 3 months.
Frequently Asked Recipe Questions
You added too many eggs. When making cookies using a cake mix, do not follow the directions on the back of the box. Follow the directions listed below in the recipe card.
If you don't want to dip the cookies in melted white chocolate, you can easily stir in any of the following for a yummy cookie: chocolate chips, crushed peppermint candy canes, chopped walnuts or pecans. You could even form the cookies into balls and then roll the balls in sugar.
