What can I make with Oreos?
Oh, the possibilities are endless with these delicious chocolate sandwich cookies!
You can use them in trifles, cheesecakes, and even milkshakes, but I'm partial to these simple Christmas Oreo Balls.
Here are a few tips for making this delicious no-bake delight that will disappear faster than Santa's cookies on Christmas Eve:
Use room temperature ingredients: Make sure the cream cheese is softened and not cold. Remove it from the refrigerator at least an hour before you begin preparing this recipe. This will help everything blend smoothly.
Fine cookie crumbs: I like to use a food processor to grind the cookies into crumbs. However, it you don't have one, simply place the cookies in a sealed plastic food storage bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
Chill the dough: Make sure you chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to roll into balls. This will also help hold their shape when dipping them into the melted chocolate.
Use a cookie scoop: You want the cookie balls to be about the same size. You can achieve this by using a cookie scoop.

Substitutions and Variations
Try Golden Oreos, mint Oreos, for a different flavor.
You can also swap out the vanilla extract for peppermint extract or even almond extract.
Fold in extra mini chocolate chips or finely chopped nuts into the cookie dough batter.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Finely crush the Oreos in a food processor. You can also crush the cookies in a plastic bag with a rolling pin.
Step 2: Add the softened cream cheese and vanilla, pulsing until smooth. Freeze the mixture for about 15 - 30 minutes.
Kitchen Tool Spotlight
Use a small cookie scoop: A cookie scoop helps to create uniform cookie balls.
- A simple squeeze of the soft grips releases cookie dough.
- Small scoop holds 2 teaspoon and yields a 2" diameter cookie.
- Size 60 portioner.
- Dishwasher safe.
- Weight: 14 oz.
Step 3: Freeze the mixture for about 15 - 30 minutes. This will help the balls set better.
Step 4: Scoop out the dough and roll into smooth balls. I like to use a small cookie scoop.
Step 5: Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for another 15-30 minutes.
Expert Tip
Longer freezing makes dipping easier, but avoid excessive freezing to prevent "sweating" as the cookie balls come back to room temperature.
How to Melt Candy Melts
Step 6: Melt the white and milk chocolates separately in 30-second bursts in the microwave. Follow the instructions on the back of the packages.
Step 7: Using a fork, dip the cookie balls one at a time into the melted chocolate. Tap the edge of the bowl to remove as much excess melted chocolate as you can.
Step 8: Place the freshly dipped cookie balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 9: Immediately add the festive sprinkles or decorate with melted chocolate drizzled on top.

To prevent Oreo balls from falling apart, ensure the Oreo crumbs are fine, and the cream cheese mixture is firm enough to hold its shape. Chilling the dough and using slightly cooled melted chocolate also helps prevent crumbling.
The best way to dip Oreo balls is using a fork! Simply drop the ball into the melted chocolate and gently turn it with the fork until fully coated. Lift it out and tap off any excess chocolate before placing it on parchment paper to set.
Storage and Thawing Instructions
Refrigerate: To maintain optimal freshness and quality, store your chocolate-dipped Oreo cookie balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Freezer: Flash freeze them individually on a baking sheet, then transfer to an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Thawing Tips: Allow them to thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
