Recipe Variations and Substitutions
- Add some finely diced apples and a sprinkle of apple pie spice to the cream cheese filling.
- Mix in mini chocolate chips to the filling, or drizzle melted chocolate over the baked rolls.
- Or you might want to add a layer of fruit preserves or pie filling before rolling up the dough.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Unroll your crescent dough and separate the triangles. While those rest on some parchment paper, whip up your filling: combine brown sugar, cinnamon, milk, and softened cream cheese in a bowl until smooth.
Top Tip
Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature before combining it with the sugar and cinnamon. That way the mixture comes together smoothly.
Step 2: Spoon a generous tablespoon of the mixture onto each crescent roll triangle, ensuring not to spread it too close to the edges of the dough. Smoothly spread the mixture over the top of each triangle with caution, maintaining a slight distance from the edges.
Step 3: Starting at the wider end, gently roll up the crescent rolls, making sure to pinch and tuck the ends together to prevent any leakage of the cream cheese mixture during baking.
Step 4: Arrange the crescent rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Brush with Egg Wash
Step 5: Mix the egg with 1 tablespoon of water, then use the egg wash to brush over the crescent rolls.
Baking Instructions
Step 6: Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they turn a golden brown hue. Let them cool for a few minutes as you prepare the glaze. You can bake them in an air fryer, at 350°F for approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
How to Prepare the Glaze
Step 7: Mix the glaze ingredients in a small bowl, then drizzle the mixture over the slightly cooled crescent rolls.

You can store the crescent rolls in an airtight container on the kitchen counter for the first day. After that they should be refrigerated. You can also refresh them in a preheated 365 degree oven for about three minutes.
You can do all the work for these cream cheese cinnamon rolls the night before. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator overnight. The next morning, bake and continue with the recipe.
Storage and Reheating Tips
Refrigerator: Allow the crescent rolls to cool completely, then wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap. Place them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freezer: Cool the rolls completely, then flash freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet for about an hour. Transfer to a freezer-safe bag and freeze for up to 2 months.
Thawing: Allow them to defrost in the refrigerator overnight.
Air Fryer: For a quick reheat with a crispy finish, pop those rolls in your air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes.
Microwave: Reheat for 15-30 seconds on low power. Keep an eye on it so they don't get too hot!
Traditional Oven: For a classic reheat, warm those rolls in a 300°F oven for 5-10 minutes. This keeps them soft and toasty.
