This recipe was inspired by Heart Shaped Chocolate Covered Strawberries; which I love to make because it's so creative and people always wonder how you make the heart shapes.
However, that recipe can be a little more time-consuming. Preparing traditional DIY Valentine's Day Chocolate Covered Strawberries is easy. I mean, all you do is melt chocolate and dip the strawberries.
Doesn't that sound easy? And delicious???

How to Melt Chocolate
I like to melt chocolate in the microwave. But I recently found the Electric Melting Pot by Wilton. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising.
- Begin by placing the almond bark or candy melting chips in a microwave-safe bowl and place the bowl in the microwave using the low setting and starting out in 30 seconds intervals.
- Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate. One of the biggest mistakes people make with using the microwave is, they forget to stir the chocolate after each interval. Chocolate pieces can retain their shape until you stir them.
- If you don't stir, you risk burning the chocolate.
- Return the chocolate back to the microwave and repeat with another 10 to 15 seconds until the chocolate is completely melted.
- In just a few minutes you'll have perfectly beautiful melted chocolate for dipping the strawberries.
How do you keep chocolate covered strawberries from sweating?
The sweat is just condensation forming on the strawberries and happens when the strawberries go back and forth from the refrigerator to room temperature. To keep this from happening you really should plan on preparing the strawberries the same day you want to serve them.

Main Ingredients Needed

🥣Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1 | Melt the Chocolate
- Melt the chocolate according to the package directions or the directions listed above.
- Hold the strawberry by the stem and gently dip it in the melted chocolate. You could also use a Chocolate Dipping Tool.
- Swirl the strawberry to make sure it is completely covered and then gently tap it on the side so the excess falls off.
Step 2 | Allow the Chocolate to Set
- Set the strawberries on a baking tray that's been lined with either parchment or waxed paper.
- Do not lay them on top of a cooling rack. The melted chocolate will adhere to the grates and stick. This happened to me a few years ago and I had to start over with fresh strawberries.
Step 3 | Decorate
- Make sure the chocolate has completely dried before decorating.
- Melt the white and pink chocolate and add them to separate drizzle bottles.

The secret to getting chocolate to stick to strawberries is to make sure the fruit is completely dry. If there's any moisture on the surface of the strawberries, the melted chocolate won't adhere properly.
If you find chocolate a little dull after heating it up, you can stir in a tablespoon of vegetable oil which will help make the chocolate shiny.
Substitutions and Variations
- You can dip the chocolate covered strawberries in crushed candy pieces, chocolate sprinkles or crushed nuts.
- Try dipping the strawberries in white chocolate and pink chocolate.
- Check out my other recipe for How to Melt Chocolate for more tips.
Storage Tips
- When the chocolate has set, store the chocolate covered strawberries at room temperature.
- Place them either on a baking tray covered with parchment paper or a container lined with parchment paper. You can cover them lightly with another piece of parchment paper if you're worried about dust particles.
- If you store them in the refrigerator, there's a chance for condensation or "sweat" to appear on the surface of the strawberries.
Top Tip
- Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping them in the melted chocolate.

The last time I made chocolate dipped strawberries they definitely didn't look as neat and pretty as yours do. Such a wonderful treat even without the holiday. Thanks for linking up all your holiday treats this week. #HomeMattersParty
