What is Nutella Spread?
Most people refer to hazelnut spread as "Nutella" but, that is actually the name of the largest chocolate producers of Italian chocolate hazelnut spread. It was created in the 1960s and quickly became popular in recipes, bakeries, cafes, and for the home cook.
The flavor comes from seven ingredients: roasted hazelnuts blended with cocoa, palm oil, sugar, milk, vanilla, and lecithin.
How to Use Nutella
For some people, straight from the jar is the favorite way for using Nutella. However, it's delicious spread on toast, bread or croissant. You could also use it for cookies, pastries and brownies.
It's also delcious spread on fruit!
Nutella Recipes
This collection was inspired by my Nutella Christmas Tree Puff Pastry dessert/appetizer that's very popular around Christmas. Here are a few other recipes you might also enjoy with the flavor of hazelnut:
- Nutella Swirl Cheesecake - mini cheesecakes with a swirl of Nutella.
- Pillsbury Crescents with Nutella - a really old recipe on the blog, that needs to be updated. You could definitely use an air fryer to bake these.
- Nutella Brownies
How to Cook Puff Pastry Flat
- If a recipe you are preparing calls for the puff pastry to be pre-baked, you're going to want to make sure you cook the puff pastry flat by "docking" it.
- Which simply means, poking holes in the dough so it releases and allows the dough to bake evenly and not puff up.
- When you need to pre-bake the puff pastry, use a fork to poke tiny holes all over the surface of the dough and then bake according to the recipe directions.
Top Recipe Tip
- When working with Nutella, make sure it's at room temperature so it spreads easily.
- Nutella should be stored in a dark cool pantry, but I know some people who store it in the refrigerator.
- I will only put our jar in the refrigerator when it's very hot outside during the summer, but for most of the year it sits on the shelf right next to our peanut butter.
