Expert Tips for Layered Delights
For this dessert, I used store-bought pound cake, you can use your favorite homemade pound cake recipe. Use a round biscuit cutter to get the perfect circle shapes.
For the best flavor, use homemade whipped cream, but in a pinch, you can use store-bought. Try piping the mixture into the jar can help create a smooth and even layer.
After adding each layer, give the jar a gentle tap on the counter to help settle the ingredients and eliminate any air pockets.
Use clear mason jars to showcase the red, white and blue layers. For an extra festive touch, you can tie a ribbon or twine around the jar and add a small American flag.
Leave a little space at the top of the jar for the final topping or garnish.
What size mason jars should I use for this recipe?
The 8-ounce jars pictured offer a generous portion. You can use smaller jars, perfect for individual servings like our homemade dirt pudding, or transform this recipe into a trifle. No matter the size, I recommend wide-mouthed jars for easy layering and scooping.

Prep Ahead Instructions
Pound Cake: If you're making it from scratch, bake the cake the day before. Let it cool completely, then cut it into cubes and store them in an airtight container at room temperature.
Berries: Store the raspberries and blueberries separately in the refrigerator, unwashed and in a single layer on a paper towel-lined container.
Whipped Cream: To maintain its fresh taste and fluffy texture, whip the cream about an hour before you plan to assemble and serve your mason jar desserts.
Storage Tips
If you have leftover assembled jars, place the mason jar lids on top and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, the cake may become slightly soggy over time.
