Substitutions and Variations
- Hot dogs - For this recipe, I used Little Smokies, but you can easily swap in hot dogs—just slice them into thirds and wrap each piece in a strip of crescent roll dough.
- Pizza dough – Creates a chewier, breadier version.
- Biscuit dough – Offers a fluffier, more Southern-style twist.
- Cheese slices – Wrap a small strip of cheddar or American cheese around the hot dog before wrapping in dough. My husband LOVES this recipe with cheese!
- Everything Bagel Seasoning - Sprinkle on top before baking for extra crunch and flavor.

Yes, you can use Pillsbury pie crust to make pigs in a blanket, but the texture will be flakier and more like a pastry. Just cut the dough into strips, wrap, and chill before baking or air frying to help them hold their shape.
Pigs in a blanket should bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and fully cooked. Keep an eye on them toward the end to prevent overbaking.
Recipe Tips the Help Me when Air Frying Food
Don’t overcrowd the basket: Arrange the pigs in a blanket in a single layer with space between each one. This ensures they cook evenly and don’t stick together.
Check halfway through cooking: Every air fryer is a little different. Peek around the halfway mark to make sure they’re browning nicely and not overcooking.
Rotate if needed: If your air fryer cooks unevenly, gently flip or rotate them halfway through.
How to Store, Freeze and Reheat
Refrigerate: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer or oven for best texture.
Freezer: Let them cool completely, then place in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze. Once frozen, transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Freeze for up to 2 months.
Thaw and Reheat: Thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes or in the oven until warmed through

Pigs in a Blanket Recipe Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Equipment
Ingredients
- 8 ounces refrigerated Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
- 13 ounces Lit'l Smokies Smoked Sausage
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- kosher salt to garnish
Instructions
- Remove the crescent rolls from the tube and lay out on a lightly floured surface. Separate at the perforated lines for each crescent roll, then with a sharp knife or pizza cutter divide each crescent roll into three triangles.
- Place the sausage at the wide end of the triangle and roll until you reach the end. Continue until you have finished using all your crescent roll triangles.
- Place your pigs in a blanket in the air fryer basket. Air fryer baskets vary in size, so put as many as you can in your basket while leaving enough space for the crescent roll to expand.
- Brush melted butter over each pig in a blanket, focusing on the crescent roll. Add a sprinkle of kosher salt to each pig in a blanket.
- Cook at 375°F for about 8 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove and serve immediately while fresh. Serve with a dipping sauce such as ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, or ranch if desired.
