💡 Substitutions and Variations
- You can omit the espresso powder from the ganache if you don't have any on hand.
- If you don't have puff pastry on hand, try using crescent roll sheet dough. The pastries won't rise as much as if you use puff pastry, but they'll still be delicious!
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Step 1: Make the ganache by placing the chocolate chips and espresso powder in a medium bowl. Heat the heavy cream just before it boils and pour over the chocolate chips.
- Step 2: Allow this to sit for 5 minutes before whisking everything together to create a smooth mixture.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar until smooth, then add the vanilla extract
- Step 4: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the sheet of puff pastry onto the baking sheet and cut into 6 even rectangles.
- Step 5: Use a paring knife to score the puff pastry about an inch from the edge to create another rectangle. Brush the edges with the egg wash, then fill the centers with the cream cheese mixture.
- Step 6: Place the baking sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes before baking. Bake in a 400°F preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Step 7: Cool for 5 minutes, then add the ganache on top of the cream cheese. Garnish with powdered sugar and mini chocolate chips.
📌Quick Tip: Place the baking sheet in the freezer before baking to allow the butter in the puff pastry to get cold again and ensure a good puff!

Chocolate Cream Cheese Puff Pastry Danish
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed but still cold
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon water
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ⅓ cup heavy cream
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon espresso powder
Toppings:
- powdered sugar
- chocolate chips
Instructions
- Add chocolate chips and espresso powder to a mixing bowl.
- In a small pot, heat the heavy cream over medium high heat. Once it starts steaming, but before boiling, pour it over the bowl of chocolate chips. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the hot cream to melt the chocolate chips.
- Once the 5 minutes has passed, slowly whisk the mixture together. It will be clumpy at first, but will slowly begin to combine.
- In a separate bowl, add the cream cheese and sugar. Use a hand mixer to blend together for about 1 minute, then add the vanilla and combine.
- On a parchment covered baking sheet, place the puff pastry sheet on it and cut into 6 pieces.
- Use a paring knife to cut a rectangle within each piece of puff pastry about an inch from the edge and not all the way down. Cut just enough so the pastry will rise around the filling when baking.
- Whisk the egg and water together to create an egg wash. Brush the edges of the puff pastry.
- Fill each center, within the border you created, by spooning in the cream cheese mixture. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 5 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes in a 400°F preheated oven until golden brown.
- Let cool for 5 minutes, then spoon on the ganache.
- Top with mini chocolate chips and powdered sugar if desired.
- Serve and enjoy!
