Chocolate Chips → Swap with white chocolate chips or butterscotch chips for a different flavor twist.
Pastel M&M’s → Use any colorful candy-coated chocolates or chocolate eggs (like Cadbury mini eggs) for decorating.
Homemade Dough → Short on time? Use pre-made refrigerated cookie dough to speed things up.
All-Purpose Flour → Use a 1:1 gluten-free baking flour to make the cookies gluten-free.

Step 1: Beat the butter and sugars for 1–2 minutes, then mix in the egg and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk the dry ingredients and gradually add to the butter mixture. Fold in the M&M's and chocolate chips until combined.
Step 2: Use a cookie scoop to portion the cookies onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Baking Instructions
Step 3: Bake for 9-10 minutes in a 350°F oven. Once you remove the cookies from the oven, press extra M&M's into the cookies to create bunnies. I made the ears by cutting an M&M in half and pressing them into the cookies while they were still warm.

Recipe Tips that work for me when Baking Chocolate Chip Cookies
Chill the dough – Letting the dough chill for at least 30 minutes helps prevent the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
Use a cookie scoop – This ensures all your cookies are the same size and bake evenly. Not sure what size scoop to use? Check out my free printable below!
Don’t overbake – Take the cookies out when the edges are lightly golden, even if the centers look a bit soft—they’ll firm up as they cool.
Use parchment paper or silicone mats – This helps prevent sticking and makes cleanup easier.
Press extra chips or M&M’s on top – Do this right after baking for a pretty, bakery-style look.
Bake Cookies Like a Pro!

Recipe FAQ's

To prevent flat chocolate chip cookies, chill the dough, use slightly softened (not melted) butter, and avoid overmixing once the flour is added. Scoop the dough into tall mounds and bake on parchment or silicone mats for better shape and lift.
Yes, you can use applesauce instead of butter in cookies, but it will change the texture. Substitute unsweetened applesauce at a 1:1 ratio for butter to reduce fat and calories. However, cookies may turn out softer, cakier, and less crisp. For best results, try replacing only half the butter with applesauce to keep some of the original texture.
How to Store, Freeze and Reheat
Room Temperature: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Freeze baked cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag or container. Label with the date and freeze for up to 3 months.
Thaw and Reheat: Let cookies thaw at room temperature for 15–30 minutes. For a fresh-from-the-oven feel, warm in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
How to Freeze Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough?
Scoop the dough into individual cookie portions using a cookie scoop or spoon.
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure the dough balls don’t touch.
Freeze until solid, about 1–2 hours.
Transfer to a freezer bag or airtight container and label with the date.
Bake from frozen, adding 1–2 extra minutes to the baking time—no need to thaw!
