Can you make Pepperidge Farm Stuffing in a Crock Pot?

Luckily, there's an easier way. This year, try making your stuffing in the crock pot. Let it cook while you focus on other things for the Thanksgiving meal. In just a few hours, you'll have perfectly cooked stuffing that's ready to eat.

And best of all, you won't have to worry about dealing with a messy kitchen later on. This crock pot stuffing can even be made the day before you want to serve it. It also helps free up space in the oven and gives the turkey more room to cook.

Pepperidge Farm Stuffing Crockpot Recipe

The recipe that I use to make my Crock Pot Stuffing is the same recipe I use for my Classic Thanksgiving Stuffing. It's a very easy recipe that starts out with Pepperidge Farm Stuffing Mix.

This is a basic stuffing recipe.  Please use it as a guide for your favorite recipe. Add cooked sausage, chopped apples or whatever your family loves in a Thanksgiving stuffing.  

How long to Cook Stuffing in Crockpot?

If you're cooking stuffing in a crockpot, the general rule is to cook it on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. Of course, this will vary depending on the recipe you're using and the size of your crockpot.

Stuffing can be a bit tricky to cook, so it's important to keep an eye on it and test it occasionally to make sure it's not drying out or getting too soggy. If your stuffing seems to be cooking too quickly, you can always add a bit more liquid (such as chicken broth) to the pot.

To be extra safe, you can always insert a meat thermometer into the center of the stuffing to make sure that it has reached an internal temperature of 165°F. Once it's done cooking, simply remove the crock pot lid and allow the stuffing to cool slightly before serving.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: In a large frying pan, melt the butter. Add the onion and celery and cook until they are softened; a few minutes Add the thyme (not pictured above), poultry seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. 

Step 2: Combine the cooked onion, celery and spices to the stuffing mix. Add the beaten egg.  Add the chicken broth, one can at a time and stir to combine with the ingredients.  Finally add the bread cubes to the crock pot that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.

Crock Pot Cooking Instructions

Step 3: Cook on high for 30 minutes, then reduce the temperature to low and continue to cook for another 2 ½ hours. Turn the setting to keep warm until you're ready to serve.

Serving Tips

Tips for using a Slow Cooker

Here are a few tips to make sure your any recipe comes out perfect:

• Don't overfill the crock pot.
• Keep the lid on. Opening the slow cooker allows the heat and moisture to escape and can slow down the cooking process.
• An obvious tip, but this has happened to me...make sure the crock pot is plugged in.

Prep Ahead Tips

If you are making the stuffing ahead of time, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. You can also freeze it for up to 3 months.

To freeze the stuffing, simply transfer it to an airtight container and label it with the date.

Storing and Reheating Tips

Refrigerator: Before storing your stuffing, let it cool completely. This will help to prevent it from getting soggy or mushy. Once the stuffing is cool, transfer it to an airtight container. Place in the refrigerator for up to 3-5 days.

Freezer: Transfer the cooled stuffing it to an airtight container and label it with the date. Store it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Thawing and Reheating: When you are ready to serve, remove it from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator overnight. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop. Transfer the hot stuffing to the chafing dish insert. Ensure the water pan beneath the insert is filled with hot water.
