This easy-to-make recipe for homemade granola is not only delicious, but it's a much healthier alternative to store-bought brands that have tons of added sugar and additivies.
This recipe is a basic recipe. However, you can add your own favorite stir-in's after it has baked and cooled. Sometimes I like to add chocolate chips and coconut like my Coconut Pecan Chocolate Chip Granola recipe.
If you add the chocolate chips too soon, the heat from the granola will melt the chips. Anything is possible when you make a recipe from scratch at home in your own kitchen.

What can I make with Granola?
Granola is perfect for enjoying as a snack or sprinkled on top of a bowl of yogurt or cereal with fruit. I like to add it to the top of applesauce that's been heated in the microwave for 30 seconds.
You can add homemade granola to smoothies for added crunch. Or add it to the top of baked goods like muffins and banana bread. How about sprinkling it on top of pudding cups? Yummy!

Is homemade granola healthy for you?
YES! Many store-bought granola recipes are made up of a combination of healthy and not-so-healthy ingredients. Which is why it’s important and so much better for you to make it homemade. That way you can control exactly what goes into the granola.

Recipe Substitutions and Variations
Dried Fruit: Add your favorite dried fruits such as raisins, cranberries, apricots, dates, cherries, blueberries, or mangoes.
Sweetener: This recipe uses brown sugar, but if you want to change things, you could also use honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar to adjust the sweetness level to your liking.
Coconut: Toss in some shredded coconut or coconut flakes for a tropical twist.
Chocolate Chips: For a special treat, fold in some dark or milk chocolate chips after baking.
Step-by-Step Instructions


Step 1: Combine the dry ingredients in large bowl and set aside. Melt the butter using the microwave and then combine it with the peanut butter and brown sugar.


Step 2: Continue heating in 15-second intervals using the microwave just long enough to combine everything easily.
Combine the Wet and Dry Ingredients


Step 3: Pour wet ingredients over dry and mix thoroughly.


Step 4: Spread evenly on large baking sheet that has an edge.

Step 5: Bake the granola in a preheated 350°F oven for 15 minutes. Remove the baking tray, stir the granola, then bake for another 15 minutes. Stir granola once more and cook for 15 more minutes (for a total of 45 minutes). Let cool completely and store in an airtight container.

How to Store Homemade Granola
Pantry: Once the granola has cooled, you can store it in an airtight container to keep it fresh. I love storing my homemade granola in mason jars. They're airtight, keeping the granola perfectly fresh, and they add a charming touch to my pantry.
Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Freezer: You can also freeze the granola in a freezer-safe container or freezer-safe bag for up to 4 months.
