Halloween Mozzarella Sticks
- Freeze the cheese sticks for at least 2 hours to prevent them from melting too quickly during baking.
- Make sure the dough wraps tightly around the cheese to avoid a cheesy mess.
- Have fun with the "bandages"! Twist, tear, and overlap the dough strips for a truly mummified effect.
- Brushing the mummies with the egg white will give them a beautiful golden-brown color.
- Keep a close eye on the mummies as they bake. They can go from golden brown to overdone quickly!
- Let the mummies cool for a few minutes before adding the candy eyes, so they don't melt.
- Serve your Mummy Mozzarella Sticks with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite pizza dipping sauce for extra flavor!

Substitutions and Variations
- Try a different dough: Swap crescent rolls for puff pastry sheets for a flakier, buttery crust, or use pizza dough for a chewier bite.
- Switch up the cheese: Cheddar, Colby Jack, or pepper Jack cheese sticks all work deliciously.
- Add extra flavor: Mix Italian seasoning into the dough or sprinkle it on top before baking.
- Brush before baking: Skip the egg white and use melted butter for golden, flavorful mummies.
- Get creative with eyes: Use dots of melted chocolate or frosting instead of candy eyes.

Step-by-Step Instructions
This section provides step-by-step photos and instructions to guide you through the recipe. For the complete printable version, scroll down to the recipe card below.
Step 1: Preheat oven to 375°F. Unroll one tube of crescent dough. Press two triangles together place the cheese stick on top.
Why Freezing the Cheese Sticks is Essential
- Make sure you freeze the cheese sticks for at least 2-4 hours before starting this recipe.
- Freezing helps the cheese stick hold its shape and prevents it from melting too quickly during baking or frying.
- If they aren't frozen, the cheese inside will likely melt and ooze out before the crescent roll gets golden brown and crispy.
Step 2: Wrap a thin layer of dough around each frozen cheese stick, ensuring complete coverage. Stretch the dough if needed. Repeat until all 8 cheese sticks are covered. Then using the remaining crescent rolls, cut thin strips to create the "bandages."
Step 3: Place them on a baking sheet that's been lined with parchment paper. Chill the tray for at least 30 minutes.
Why You Should Chill the Dough Before Baking
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- This will help the rolls keep their shape and prevent them from spreading too much during baking.
Oven Baking Instructions
Step 4: Brush with the egg white. This will help give them that shiny golden color. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Air Frying Instructions
Air fry the mummies at 375°F for 8-10 minutes, ensuring they're in a single layer with space between them. No oil is needed! They're ready when the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Handle with care as the cheese will be hot.

Insider Tips from My Kitchen to Yours
Want to make this recipe even better? Don’t miss my favorite tips below for boosting flavor, perfecting texture, and saving time in the kitchen!
✔️ DO freeze the cheese sticks before wrapping so they hold their shape while baking.
❌ DO NOT overwrap the dough—too many layers will keep it from baking evenly and getting golden brown.
Storage and Reheating Instructions
Refrigerate: Place the cooled mozzarella sticks in an airtight container or resealable bag. If you store them while they're still warm, they'll become soggy from the excess moisture. They will remain fresh for up to 3-4 days.
Freezer: Flash freeze the baked mummy crescents by placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 1 hour, or until solid. Remove from the freezer and store in an airtight plastic container or storage bag.
Thaw and Reheat: Reheat the mummies directly from the freezer. The air fryer is the best way to reheat leftover mozzarella stick mummies as it will help them crisp up again. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F and reheat for 3-5 minutes, or until heated through and the dough is crispy.
