Treat the whole family to something really delicious this Valentine’s Day with these Strawberry Vanilla Ice Cream Floats. Have the kids help you by selecting their favorite colorful sprinkles and fun drinking straws too!
I think these Strawberry Vanilla Ice Cream Floats are fun and delicious. They’re even fun to make when the weather is really hot and you need something to help you cool off at the end of the day.
This recipe is very similar to my favorite Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Soda, so check that one out if you’re a love of mint like me!
But with Valentine’s Day is in just a few weeks, they’re perfect to show how much you love your family with something sweet and pretty. And while typically we think of celebrating this day of love with just our spouse or someone special, I always enjoyed making something fun and yummy for the kids when they were little.
My favorite thing to make were either heart shaped brownies or cookie bars for my kids for Valentine’s Day. One year I even made heart-shaped mini loaves of bread. They came out yummy but didn’t really resemble the shape of a heart.
What is the Difference Between an Ice Cream Soda and a Float
An ice cream float is a fizzy drink made with soda and ice cream. When making an ice cream float, you add the ice cream FIRST to the glass and then the soda so the ice cream floats up to the top.
An ice cream soda is very similar only you first fill a glass halfway up with soda followed by adding different flavoring like chocolate syrup or milk to the drink. Then you add the ice cream followed by the rest of the soda.

The recipe for this ice cream float is very basic and easy to change if someone in your family doesn’t enjoy strawberry soda. You can make these in my favorite mason jars, but a tall drinking glass works great too.
- 3 – 4 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream
- 3 cups Strawberry Soda
- Whipped Cream
- Valentine’s Day Colored Sprinkles
Directions
Start by adding the vanilla ice cream to the bottom of the mason jar or large drinking glass.
Then pour the strawberry soda on top of the ice cream.
Make sure you leave room at the top so you can add the whipped cream.
Finally, top with whipped cream and your favorite colorful sprinkles. The kids would love helping with this step!
Don’t forget the fun colorful drinking straws and you are set for a delicious treat for the entire family!
