Beth's Brisket Recipe
Beth first made this recipe for us years ago when we were visiting and we all absolutely loved it. I asked her many times for the recipe but she kept ignoring me saying it was a "family secret." After many years of begging her for the recipe, she finally gave it to me and I'm happy to share it with you all today.
This recipe means so much to me now that Beth is gone. You can read about my sister-in-law's sudden death in my post, "A Wedding and a Funeral."
Beth made the recipe in the oven, and usually the day before she needed to serve it. This was the recipe she always made for all the Jewish holidays their family celebrated.

Main Ingredients Needed
- Fresh beef brisket (not corned beef)
- Fresh garlic
- Heinz chili sauce
- Brown sugar
- Seasoning salt
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Lightly coat the inside of your crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Place the brisket inside and generously sprinkle seasoning salt over the top.
Step 2: In a small bowl, combine the garlic, jar of chili sauce, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the brisket in your crock pot. Add the beef bouillon cubes and water for extra richness and flavor.
Crock Pot Cooking Instructions
Step 3: Cover the crock pot with the lid. Cook on high for 4 to 6 hours or until the meat is tender and starts to fall apart.
Serving Tips
I like to thicken the liquid that the brisket cooked in and make a sauce to serve with the brisket. It's not really a traditional gravy, more like a thick barbecue/chili sauce that tastes delicious served over the brisket slices.
Step 4: Once your brisket is cooked, remove it to a cutting board and cover it with foil to rest. Meanwhile, strain the liquid from the crock pot into a bowl using a fine sieve. Pour the strained liquid into a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Let it boil for about five minutes, or until it reduces and thickens into a delicious sauce to serve over your perfectly cooked brisket.

Make it a Meal
Round out your delicious crock pot brisket with a selection of classic, comforting sides! Opt for creamy Homemade Mac and Cheese, decadent Twice Baked Potatoes loaded with toppings, or simple yet satisfying Company Mashed Potatoes . Each of these dishes complements the rich brisket perfectly, creating a hearty and satisfying meal.
Storage Tips
Allow your leftover brisket to cool slightly before slicing or shredding it based on your preference for later use. Wrap the brisket tightly in plastic wrap followed by a layer of aluminum foil. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Freezing Tips
For longer-term storage, place the wrapped brisket in a freezer-safe container or bag and freeze for up to 2-3 months.
Thawing and Reheating Tips
Remember to save any leftover juices to add moisture when reheating. For best results, reheat your brisket slowly with added liquid (juices or broth) in the oven, on the stovetop, or even in the slow cooker.

- Pour the liquid from the crock pot through a fine sieve that's placed over a bowl.
- Then place the liquid in a saucepan on the stove and bring it to a boil; whisking every now and then so the mixture doesn't burn.
