4th of July Appetizers Red, White and Blue
Looking for a few other ideas that celebrate our love for the Red, White and Blue? Try some Fourth of July popcorn. Just mix together popcorn kernels, melted butter, and red and blue food coloring.
You could also try my Red, White and Blue Patriotic Strawberries. They would even look great on a plate next to this flag appetizer.
Try using a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut out stars from different flavors of cheese placed over crushed blue tortilla chips, chopped red peppers for the red stripes and use shredded mozzarella cheese for the white stripes.
Tips for Preparing This 4th of July Appetizer
- Make sure you break up the "colors" of the flag so the arrangement of cheese and pepperoni resemble the American flag. The same with the blue section for the stars.
- You'll want to put your appetizer together at the last moment. Or keep it covered with plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator until your guests have arrived.
- You could put all the ingredients the night before and store them in plastic storage containers and assemble before your guests arrive.
- Serve crackers on the side or even fancy breadsticks.

Recipe Variations
- Red Stripes: you could use hard salami, ham or even grape tomatoes. How about red pepper stripes?
- White Stripes: you could use cauliflower, white cheese such as mozzarella, muenster or even white cheddar cheese. The cheese can also be grated if you don't want to slice it.
- Blue Stripes: this is a little trickier. Besides blueberries, you could use a blueberry flavored yogurt with the white stars on top. Or crushed blue tortilla chips would be great also.
- Try my 4th of July Charcuterie Cups for a fun variation on a cheese board!

Step 1: Place the blueberries in a white bowl and then place the bowl in the corner of a large white platter or cutting board. Cut star shapes out of the sliced Swiss cheese using a star shaped cookie cutter. You only need a few depending on the size of the bowl for the blueberries you are using.
Step 2: Slice the remaining cheese into squares. Create red and white stripes using the pepperoni and cheese.

Insider Tips from My Kitchen to Yours
Want to make this recipe even better? Don’t miss my favorite tips below for boosting flavor, perfecting texture, and saving time in the kitchen!
✔️ DO pre-slice everything for easy assembly.
❌ DO NOT skip the chilling step—keep the tray in the fridge until just before serving to ensure the cheese and pepperoni stay fresh and hold their shape.
Storage Tips
If there are any leftovers, they should be stored in the refrigerator. I would dismantle the flag and store the meat, cheese and fruit in separate storage containers.

Love the red, white and blue tray. Going to try it for a small get together.
Lois says
Thank you! Hope you enjoy the appetizer!
Darlene says
What else can be used instead of the pepperoni for the flag tray?
Lois says
You can swap the pepperoni for sliced cherry tomatoes, red bell pepper strips, salami, prosciutto, or even sun-dried tomatoes. For a sweeter twist, try using strawberries or roasted red peppers—just be sure to pat them dry before adding to the tray. Hope you enjoy the recipe!
