👩🍳Recipe Notes
- Make sure the butter and eggs are at room temperature before you start baking. This will give you a smoother dough.
- Chill the dough! Try to chill the dough for at least 30 minutes which will help the cookies not spread as much when baking.
- Once the cookies are done baking, quickly add a few extra red, white and blue M&M's on top of the cookies.
- Don't overbake the cookies. Take the cookies out of the oven just as the edges are starting to turn golden brown. They will continue to cook on the baking trays.

🍶Storage Tips
- Once the cookies have cooled completely, store them in an airtight container for up to a week.
- To keep the cookies from sticking to each other in the container, add a piece of parchment paper between the layers.
Parchment Baking Sheets: Ensure your cookies are precisely spaced and bake evenly without sticking or breaking. Pre-cut to 12” x 16” sheets, they make your prep, baking and clean-up a breeze. Use them to roll-out dough, line baking sheets, decorate cookies and even wrap your finished creations for a beautiful gift.
❄️Freezing Tips
- You can make the cookie dough ahead of time and freeze by scooping the dough out onto a baking sheet then freezing for about an hour. Transfer the dough balls into a freezer bag or airtight container.
- To bake from frozen, bake according to the directions on the recipe. You may need to add 2-3 minutes on the bake time since they're starting from frozen.
- Freeze baked cookies in a freezer bag or airtight container with parchment paper in between layers for 2-3 months. Defrost at room temperature for a couple of hours before enjoying.
➡️Top Recipe Tip
- Chill the dough at least 30 minutes before baking to get the butter in the dough cold again. This will help the cookies keep their shape and not spread while baking.

Yes, however, you'll have a chewier and softer cookie if you use butter. Butter also provides a lot of flavor, but if you're short on butter, you can substitute the same amount called for with shortening.
Baking soda is an essential ingredient in chocolate chip cookies because it helps them rise and spread while baking.
As cookies bake, they will start to turn golden brown around the edges. Another way to test if cookies are done is to press the center gently with your finger or a spoon. If it feels set and doesn't leave a dent, then they are probably done. If the center is still soft and leaves an impression, they may need a few more minutes in the oven.
