Substitutions and Variations
Use a different filling: Swap strawberry jam for raspberry, cherry, blueberry, or apple pie filling for a new flavor.
Try a different dough: Refrigerated biscuit dough or homemade pie dough can be used instead of pie dough for a softer texture.
Change the shape: Use a round or fluted cookie cutter if you don’t have heart shapes.
Switch the sprinkles: Use holiday sprinkles to match the season or skip them for a simple look.
Air fryer option: Bake in an air fryer at 350°F for 8–10 minutes, checking early for doneness.

Step-by-Step Instructions
This section provides step-by-step photos and instructions to guide you through the recipe. For the complete printable version, scroll down to the recipe card below.

Step 1: Unroll the pie dough and cut out heart shapes using a large cookie cutter. Re-roll any scraps with a rolling pin and cut more hearts until you have an even number. You’ll need 16 hearts to make 8 hand pies.

Step 2: Spoon about 1 heaping tablespoon of strawberry preserves onto the center of half of the hearts, leaving a small border around the edges. Set aside about 1 tablespoon of preserves for the icing.

Step 3: Place the remaining heart shapes on top of the filled ones. Use a fork to crimp the edges all the way around, sealing the pies closed.

Step 4: Cut two small slits in the top of each pie. This is to allow steam to escape. Chill the hand pies for about 30 minutes before baking.

Step 5: Transfer the pies to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15–18 minutes. You want the crust to be golden and the pies lift easily from the parchment.

Step 6: Move the baked hand pies to a wire rack and let them cool. Prepare the icing using the reserved strawberry preserves.

Step 7: Decorate with the icing and add fun Valentine's Day sprinkles.

Insider Tips from My Kitchen to Yours
✔️ DO chill the filled hand pies for 10–15 minutes before baking to help them keep their shape and prevent filling from leaking out.
❌ DO NOT overfill the pies, as too much jam can spill out and make sealing the edges difficult during baking.

Storage & Serving Tips
Refrigerate: Store baked hand pies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Let them come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
Freezer: Freeze unglazed hand pies in a single layer until firm, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
Thaw and Reheat: Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then warm in a 300°F oven for a few minutes if desired.
Serving Tips: Serve on a platter with fresh strawberries or add a light dusting of powdered sugar just before serving for a simple finish.

Ingredients
- 2 refrigerated pre-made crusts
- 1 cup strawberry preserves
- ¾ cup powdered sugar

- Valentine's Day Sprinkle Mixes (Lots o' Hearts Confetti 2.6oz)
Method
- Preheat the oven to 365°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Unroll the pie crust and cut out heart shapes. With a rolling pin, re-roll any scrap dough to get an even number of hearts.
- Spoon about 1 heaping tablespoon of the strawberry preserves onto the center of every other heart. Reserve about 1 tablespoon for the icing.
- Top with remaining heart and crimp the edges with a fork all the way around the heart, sealing the top and the bottom hearts together.

- Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown and they lift off of the parchment paper easily.

- Spoon or spread the icing on top of each of the hand pies and finish with sprinkles.

Notes
Tips:
- Use a large 4-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter to make evenly sized hand pies that bake at the same rate and look uniform.
- Keep the filling centered and leave a small border around the edges to help prevent leaks during baking.
- For the icing, add a small drop of food coloring if you want a softer or brighter pink shade, mixing well before adding more.
Storage:
- Baked hand pies can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can assemble the pies ahead of time and refrigerate them unbaked for up to 24 hours before baking.
- For best results, glaze the pies after they have cooled and just before serving.
Air Frying Instructions:
- Preheat the air fryer to 350°F for a few minutes before adding the hand pies so they start baking evenly.
- Place the hand pies in a single layer with space between them to allow air to circulate and prevent uneven browning.
- Air fry for 8–10 minutes, checking at the 7-minute mark, and remove once the crust is golden and set.
- Let the hand pies cool slightly before icing so the glaze sets instead of melting.
