For some reason people seem to be intimated by working with puff pastry. In reality, it's one of the easiest ways to create a show-stopping dessert or savory appetizer.
I've been creating recipes using these delicate sheets of pastry dough for a few years now and I'm always amazed at how beautiful they turn out.

Main Ingredients Needed
This is an overview of the ingredients and instructions. Be sure to see the recipe card below for exact quantities, detailed instructions and special notes.
- Puff Pastry Sheets - I only used one sheet for this recipe.
- Candy melts - I used chocolate ones but you can use vanilla or even pink for Valentine's Day!
- Crushed Candy Cane Pieces
- Colorful Sprinkles
Baking Tip: I love using parchment paper because it helps to keep the pastry from sticking to the baking sheet. AND it also makes for easy cleanup!
Directions
- Unfold one sheet of puff pastry and on a lightly floured surface, open it up gently. Use a rolling pin to lightly roll the pastry sheet to get rid of any fold lines.
- Cut the sheet of puff pastry in half using a pizza cutter.
- Then cut each half into half so you have four even squares.
- Then cut each square into nine pieces.
Baking Instructions
- Once you have all the strips cut, place them on a baking sheet that's been lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in a 400 degree preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes or until the strips are puffed up and golden brown.
- Let the puff pastry strips cool completely before dipping in the melted chocolate.
How to Melt Chocolate
- Place the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl.
- Microwave on medium power for 30 seconds.
- Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolates.
- Repeat until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
How to Dip the Cookies in Chocolate
- Dip one end of the puff pastry strip into the melted chocolate and then immediately into the sprinkles or crushed peppermint candies.
- Place the strips back on to the parchment paper to completely harden.
Serving Tips
- Puff Pastry Christmas Cookies are best served the day you prepare them.
- They will keep fresh for a few days when stored in an air-tight container.

Frequently Asked Recipe Questions
You should always roll out puff pastry to make sure the sheet is the same thickness before using for a recipe. Rolling out puff pastry also helps get rid of the fold lines that occur when you take it out of the package.
You can easily thaw frozen puff pastry by removing the package from the freezer the night before you need to use it for a recipe. It can take anywhere from six to eight hours to thaw completely. Once it's thawed, keep it cold in the refrigerator until you're ready to bake with it.
