How to add peanut butter to cake mix?
This cake is all about the peanut butter flavor! There's peanut butter added to the cake batter and to the homemade chocolate icing. Adding peanut butter to a cake mix is simple and adds a delicious nutty flavor.
Add the peanut butter once the cake batter is combined. Make sure you mix the batter again until the peanut butter is fully incorporated. Then continue with the instructions of adding the chocolate chips, bake and enjoy!
How to put chocolate chips in cake?
For this cake mix hack, I add chocolate chips to the cake mix batter. To make sure the chocolate chips are evenly distributed throughout the batter, make sure you fold in the chocolate chips carefully so that they are evenly dispersed throughout.

Recipe Variations
- For an extra peanut butter flavor, use peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips. You can also use a combination of both chips for a delicious twist.
- You could use a regular canned chocolate frosting in place of the homemade ganache.
- Or leave the frosting and homemade ganache off and sprinkle with powdered sugar!
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, combine the cake mix, eggs, peanut butter and milk until smooth. Then add the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into a cake pan that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
Step 2: Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes before inverting to cool completely on a wire rack.
Tips for Icing a Cake:
Allow the cake to cool completely before even attempting to pour the glaze on top. If you don't, the glaze will not properly cling because the cake is too warm.
Place the cooled cake on top of the serving platter. Gently lift the edges of the cake and place pieces of parchment paper underneath.
Then pour the glaze on top of the cake and allow the excess to collect on the parchment paper.
Remove parchment paper before serving.
Homemade Chocolate Glaze Icing
Step 3: Spoon the icing over the cake, letting it cascade down the sides for that beautiful drip effect (just like the photo above!).

What can you use to thin out melted chocolate?
If you find that the chocolate glaze is too thick, you can try to thin it out by adding a little vegetable oil or extra cream.
Start by adding in a small amount of your chosen fat and mix until the desired consistency is reached.
Keep in mind that too much fat can ruin the texture and flavor of your chocolate so use it sparingly.
Storage Tips
Leftover chocolate cake should be stored in an airtight container to keep it fresh for as long as possible.
If you are keeping the cake refrigerated, make sure to remove it from the fridge at least 30 minutes before serving to get the most delicious taste.
