Tips for Baking Patriotic Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Make sure the butter and eggs are at room temperature before you start baking. This will give you a smoother dough.
- Chill the dough! Try to chill the dough for at least 30 minutes which will help the cookies not spread as much when baking.
- Once the cookies are done baking, quickly add a few extra red, white and blue M&M's on top of the cookies.
- Don't over bake the cookies. Take the cookies out of the oven just as the edges are starting to turn golden brown. They will continue to cook on the baking trays.

- Instead of using melted white chocolate, you could use canned creamed cheese that's been warmed in the microwave for a few seconds to make it easier to dip the cookies in.

Step 1: Combine the butter, the sugars, and vanilla together until creamy. Add the eggs one at a time.
Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda. Gradually add the flour to the butter mixture.
Step 3: Stir in the chocolate chips.
Step 4: Then add the M&Ms.
Step 5: Use a rubber spatula to add the M&Ms so they don't break up.
Step 6: Line baking sheets with parchment paper and add the dough using a cookie scoop. Chill the dough for 30 minutes one more time before baking!
Baking Instructions
Step 7: Bake for 9-12 minutes in a preheated 350°F oven or until golden brown. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 more minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool the rest of the way.

How to Store, Freeze and Reheat

Thaw and Reheat: Let cookies thaw at room temperature for about 15–20 minutes. To enjoy warm, microwave for 10–15 seconds.
Tip: To keep the cookies from sticking to each other in the container add a piece of parchment paper between the layers.

4th of July Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup red white, and blue M&M's

Method
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a medium bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.
- Beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in a large mixer bowl until creamy.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually add in the flour mixture.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and M&M's.
- Drop by rounded tablespoon using a cookie scoop onto baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
