Easy Tips for Walking Desserts
- Make sure you defrost the Frozen Whipped Topping! Remove it from the freezer either the night before or a few hours before you plan on serving your dessert.
- Slice the strawberries in advance to save time when preparing this dessert. You can store them in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble.
- If you prefer, you can have your guests assemble their own Walking Shortcakes by setting up an assembly station with the muffins, whipped topping, strawberries, and any additional toppings. This makes it easy for guests to customize their own creations.
- If you're making these ahead of time, store the assembled treats in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve. This will help keep everything fresh and prevent the muffins from getting soggy.

Substitutions and Variations
- Don't want to use whipped topping? Try using Reddi-Wip whipped cream or my Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe.
- Want to try a different flavored muffin? Try using lemon poppyseed muffins, or a plain vanilla muffin.
- Or try a tropical twist and use coconut muffins, whipped coconut cream, mango chunks, pineapple tidbits, and a sprinkle of toasted coconut flakes.
- You could even use brownie bites or chocolate muffins, chocolate whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate shavings take this dessert to the next level.

Insider Tips from My Kitchen to Yours
✔️ DO: Set up your ingredients (strawberry muffins, Cool Whip, strawberry pie filling, and fresh strawberries) before assembling to make layering quick and easy.
❌ DO NOT: Assemble the treats too early or they may become soggy. Wait until just before serving or keep components separate until it’s time to enjoy.

Storage Instructions
Refrigerate: Leftover walking desserts can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. However, the texture of the muffin might become slightly soggy due to the moisture from the filling and topping.
Freezer: I do not recommend freezing any leftovers. This recipe is best served within an hour or so of preparation.

Add the whipped cream and strawberries just before serving to prevent the muffins from getting too moist.
While you could cut up regular-sized muffins, mini muffins are the perfect choice for this recipe as they are individually portioned and come in convenient packaging that can be transformed into a handheld, walking dessert with minimal effort.
