Peach Fried Pies with Canned Peaches

Indulge in a peach paradise with these desserts to make with canned peaches! From cobblers to crisps, we've gathered our top tips to ensure your peachy creations are a sweet success.

1. Make sure you drain the peaches well.
2. I used Pillsbury Grands biscuits for this recipe but, you may use any bigger type brand of biscuit that you prefer.
3. Use a rolling pin to flatten each biscuit.
4. If you don't have a rolling pin, you could use your fingers to press the biscuit dough until it’s flattened.
5. Place the hand pies in the freezer for about 10 to 15 minutes before frying.
6. You can test to see if the oil is hot enough by using a digital meat thermometer or dropping a little water in the oil. If it sizzles, the oil is ready for frying. Be careful, as hot oil can splatter!

Step 1: With a rolling pin, softly roll out each biscuit into a round shape. The circles should be about 4 to 6 inches in diameter.

Step 2: If the rolling pin begins to stick, lightly dust each biscuit with a sprinkle of flour. You can sprinkle some flour on the parchment paper too.

Step 3: After draining the peaches, place at least two peach slices onto each biscuit round. Then fold them over gently.

Step 4: Press the edges together firmly, and using a fork. Make sure the seams are sealed completely.

Step 5: Arrange the hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Next, transfer the baking sheet to the freezer and allow the hand pies to chill for a minimum of 15 minutes before frying.

How to Make Fried Peach Pies

Step 6: Heat up the oil in a spacious skillet; I opted for my trusty cast iron skillet. You won't require a significant amount of oil; roughly a cup should suffice for a skillet of similar size to mine.

Step 7: When the oil reaches a temperature of 350°F, carefully add four hand pies at a time. Exercise caution and attentiveness while handling hot oil. Allow the pies to cook for about two to four minutes and then gently flip them using metal tongs. Continue cooking for another two minutes until the pies are golden brown.

Step 8: Let the hand pies cool down by transferring them to a baking rack set over a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This setup ensures that any excess oil will drip off, leaving the pies perfectly crisp.

Glaze for Fried Pies

Step 9: Mix together the ingredients for the glaze. Then drizzle it over the cooled pastries.

Step 10: Drizzling the glaze over the hand pies while they're on the baking rack prevents any messy spills on your serving platter, as it allows the excess glaze to drip down efficiently.

Hand Pies with Biscuit Dough

Fried peach hand pies with biscuit dough are best served warm or at room temperature. They would be great with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream or even homemade whipped cream.served on top!

Storing, Freezing and Reheating Tips

Refrigerator: Store them in a plastic container loosely covered with plastic wrap. Do not store them in a closed container as the glaze will soften the pies.

Freeze Uncooked: After assembling, freeze the uncooked hand pies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Once solid, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container, removing excess air to prevent freezer burn.

Freeze Already Fried Pies: Wrap each hand pie individually in plastic wrap or aluminum foil so they don't stick together. Place in the freezer for up to two months.

Reheating: Place the frozen hand pies on a baking sheet in a preheated 350° F oven for 10-15 minutes.
