Can you use crescent roll dough in place of puff pastry?
Crescent roll dough is a good substitute for puff pastry but it will not puff up or taste as flaky as puff pastry dough.

Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 425°F. Open the can of crescent rolls, but do not separate them. Place them on a piece of parchment paper.
Step 2: Press the dough together to form one big rectangle. You can use a pastry dough roller or even a rolling pin. You might need to sprinkle a little flour on top if you find the dough sticking.
Step 3: Spread the pizza sauce down the center only of the dough. Add the mozzarella cheese followed by the peppers.
Top Tip
When opening the can of crescent rolls, try to keep the roll together. It makes it easier to form into a rectangle shape.
Step 4: Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning over the dish. This will add depth of flavor and a touch of cheesy goodness.
Step 5: Finally add the sliced pepperoni. If you want, you can add your favorite pizza toppings as well!
Step 6: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into strips on both sides of the toppings.
Step 7: Be careful not to slice the dough too close to the center. The filling will seep out while it bakes.
Step 8: Fold one strip over the toppings and then fold one strip from the opposite side over the first strip. Repeat to form a braid.
Step 9: Make sure you tug the crescent roll dough under on both ends of the braid.
Step 10: Brush the braid with the beaten egg. Sprinkle the top with a little extra Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
Baking Instructions
Step 11: Gently lift up the edges of the parchment paper and place either on top of a baking tray or a pizza stone. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 - 12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Cut into slices and serve warm with extra pizza sauce on the side.

I love this easy dinner! Helped me in a pinch today so I didn’t have to cook a full meal from scratch. For me though, after the top was browned at the recommended temperature the inside dough was still cold and raw. I just placed a foil sheet on top and cooked longer!
