Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1| Prepare the Dough
- Preheat the oven to 425°F.
- Open the can of crescent rolls, but do not separate them.
- Place them on a piece of parchment paper.
- Press the dough together to form one big rectangle.
- You can use a pastry dough roller or even a rolling pin.
- You might need to sprinkle a little flour on top if you find the dough sticking.
Step 2 | Add the Marinara Sauce
- Spread the pizza sauce down the center only of the dough.
- Add the mozzarella cheese followed by the peppers.
Step 3 | Add the Pizza Toppings
- Now add the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
- Finally add the sliced pepperoni.
Step 3 | Slice the Dough
- Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the dough into strips on both sides of the toppings.
- Be careful not to slice the dough too close to the center or the filling will seep out while it bakes.
Step 4 | Form the Braid
- Fold one strip over the toppings and then fold one strip from the opposite side over the first strip.
- Repeat to form a braid.
Step 5 | Tuck the Ends
- Make sure you tug the crescent roll dough under on both ends of the braid.
Step 6 | Brush with Egg Wash
- Brush the braid with the beaten egg.
- Sprinkle the top with a little extra Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
Step 7 | Baking Instructions
- Gently lift up the edges of the parchment paper and place either on top of a baking tray or a pizza stone.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 - 12 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Cut into slices and serve warm with extra pizza sauce on the side
