Recipe Tips
Chill the mixing bowl and beaters: Before you start whipping the heavy whipping cream, place the mixing bowl and beaters in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes. This helps keep the cream cold, which makes it easier to whip to stiff peaks.
Use cold heavy whipping cream: Make sure the heavy whipping cream is well-chilled before you start whipping it. Cold cream whips up faster and holds its shape better.
Whip the cream to stiff peaks: Whip the heavy whipping cream until it reaches stiff peaks. Be careful not to overbeat it, as it can turn into butter. Stiff peaks mean that when you lift the beaters, the cream stands up straight without collapsing.
Incorporate the pudding mix gradually: Add the pudding mix to the whipped cream gradually, folding it in gently. This helps ensure that the mixture stays light and airy.
Fold in the chocolate chips: Once the pudding mix is fully incorporated into the whipped cream, gently fold in the chocolate chips. Be gentle to avoid deflating the whipped cream.
Chill before serving: Refrigerate the mousse for at least 1-2 hours before serving to allow it to set and firm up. This also helps the flavors meld together.
What is Chocolate Mousse?
Mousse is lighter and fluffier than pudding. That comes from using an electric mixer to combine everything together. The mixer helps add the air needed to get everything light and perfect.
Traditionally a chocolate mousse is made with egg whites beaten until fluffy and then added to a combination of heavy cream and melted chocolate.
