Funny story, back when my son was on the high school football team, I had to work the concession stand one Friday night and I was in charge of the "Walking Tacos."
I was initially clueless about what a "walking taco" was, and someone had to show me how to put one together. However, by the end of the game, I had become an expert as they were the most popular item ordered that night.

Your Guide to Mess-Free Portable Treats
Make sure you defrost the Frozen Whipped Topping! Remove it from the freezer either the night before or a few hours before you plan on serving your dessert.
Slice the strawberries in advance to save time when preparing this dessert. You can store them in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble.
If you prefer, you can have your guests assemble their own Walking Shortcakes by setting up an assembly station with the muffins, whipped topping, strawberries, and any additional toppings. This makes it easy for guests to customize their own creations.
If you're making these ahead of time, store the assembled treats in the refrigerator until you're ready to serve. This will help keep everything fresh and prevent the muffins from getting soggy.

How do I keep the muffins from getting soggy?
Add the whipped cream and strawberries just before serving to prevent the muffins from getting too moist.
What if I don't have mini muffins?
While you could cut up regular-sized muffins, mini muffins are the perfect choice for this recipe as they are individually portioned and come in convenient packaging that can be transformed into a handheld, walking dessert with minimal effort.
Try my Strawberry Shortcake in a Mason Jar recipe if you can't find a snack size package of muffins. Or you could always go old school and make the classic Traditional Strawberry Shortcake Recipe.

Or try a tropical twist and use coconut muffins, whipped coconut cream, mango chunks, pineapple tidbits, and a sprinkle of toasted coconut flakes.
You could even use brownie bites or chocolate muffins, chocolate whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate shavings take this dessert to the next level.
Don't want to use whipped topping? Try using Reddi-Wip whipped cream or my Homemade Whipped Cream Recipe.

Storage Instructions
Refrigerate: Leftover walking desserts can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. However, the texture of the muffin might become slightly soggy due to the moisture from the filling and topping.
To maintain the best quality, it's recommended to assemble the walking dessert just before serving.
Freezer: I do not recommend freezing any leftovers. This recipe is best served within an hour or so of preparation.
