Apple Crumb Pie

If you like apple crisp, you are going to love this recipe for Apple Crumb Pie Recipe. This is the perfect combination of apple pie and apple crisp all rolled in one delicious recipe.

Apple Crumb Pie is a combination of apple crisp and apple pie.

Apple Crumb Pie

I have to be honest with you…I love apple crisp a little bit more than I love apple pie.  And if your family loves apple crisp as much as I do, then  you’re going to love this recipe for Apple Crumb Pie.

This recipe is the same as a Dutch Apple Pie, although I like calling it a crumb pie recipe. Serve warm from the oven with vanilla ice cream or even homemade whipped cream to make it even more delicious.

For this recipe, you will need single pie crust. You can find my favorite pie crust recipe on the blog or you can use a store purchased one.

Ingredients for the Filling

  • 5 large tart apples peeled and thinly sliced
  • Sugar
  • All-purpose flour
  • Ground cinnamon

Ingredients for the Crumb Topping

  • All-purpose flour
  • Sugar
  • Cold butter

Roll out the pie crust and place in a pie plate, flute the edges and set aside. Prepare the filling by placing the sliced apples in a bowl. Add the sugar, flour and cinnamon and mix to combine with the apples.

Pour the apples into the pie crust. I  like to use aluminum pie plates to make clean up easy…especially when you’re having company.

How to make the crumb topping for apple pie

Prepare the topping by combining the flour and sugar in a small bowl. Cut in the butter until crumbly just as you would when making an apple crisp.

Sprinkle the topping over the apples right before baking.

Cover the pie with the crumb topping right before baking.

Baking Directions

Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees and then reduce the heat to 350 and bake another 50 – 60 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

Cool on a wire rack before serving. A scoop of vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream would make this pie perfect.

That looks awesome, however, my pie crusts always turn out bad. Any way it could taste semi delicious with a store bought one? I’m a good cook, but horrible baker, so any hints would help! 🙂

I like that last photo. I've always crimped the edges of my crust with my thumb, but now I go back afterwards and make that little point on each little scallop, like you do in the photo. It makes it even prettier!!
