Can you make cinnamon roll casserole the night before?
Christmas morning brunch can be simplified with the use of a cinnamon roll casserole made using Pillsbury canned cinnamon rolls. Since this casserole uses dough that hasn’t been baked yet, it doesn’t need time to soak overnight. Therefore, I recommend putting it together right before you want to bake it.
Follow these easy prep-ahead tips the night before to make sure that Christmas morning can be enjoyed without any stress:
- Slice the rolls up and cover with plastic wrap.
- Place the casserole dish in the refrigerator.
- Prepare the brown sugar mixture and store it in a plastic container until ready to use.
- The next morning, simply remove the casserole dish from the refrigerator, add the melted butter, followed by the cherry pie filling and then the brown sugar mixture on top.
- Bake and then top with the icing from the cinnamon rolls...then serve!
Pioneer Woman Cinnamon Roll Casserole
The Pioneer Woman is known for her homemade cinnamon roll recipe that she bakes every year to give out to friends and family. However, she also does talk about a Pioneer Woman Cinnamon Roll Casserole!
Her casserole recipe is very similar to this recipe in that it also uses a shortcut ingredient...refrigerator cinnamon rolls.
In a recipe blog post she claims, “This is the easiest version of cinnamon rolls you’ll ever make!” And I agree! If you're looking for another version of this easy recipe, try my Cinnamon Roll Recipe without Eggs.

An easy way to make canned cinnamon rolls taste homemade is to use a homemade cream cheese frosting instead of the icing packet that comes with the store-purchased rolls.
