How to make Cinnamon Buns with Crescent Rolls
Transforming refrigerated dough into delightful cinnamon buns is a surprisingly simple process.
When working with crescent rolls or any type of refrigerator dough, keep in mind the following tips:
Refrigerated dough is often delicate and can become tough if overworked. Be gentle when handling the dough and try to avoid excessive kneading or rolling.
You can roll the dough into different shapes. Try making braided bread, dinner rolls, or even pizza made with crescent rolls.
For a shiny, golden brown finish, I like to brush the crescent rolls with a beaten egg mixed with a tablespoon of water before baking. If it's a sweet recipe, you can sprinkle a little granulated sugar on top or even a mixture of cinnamon and sugar...yum!

Recipe Substitutions and Variations
- Vanilla Frosting will work in place of Cream Cheese Frosting.
- You can use a homemade cream cheese frosting as well!
- For more of a traditional cinnamon roll look, spread the ingredients evenly over a Crescent Roll Sheet Dough. Form into one long roll, then slice into pieces. Bake according to the directions below.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Spread softened butter evenly over each crescent triangle.
Step 2: Mix the cinnamon and sugar together then sprinkle the mixture evenly on top of the butter.
Step 3: Roll the triangles up and place the crescent rolls on a baking sheet prepared with parchment paper.
Step 4: Brush the tops of each roll with melted butter and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar on top.
Baking Instructions
Step 5: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown. While the rolls are still warm, add the cream cheese frosting on top of each one. Serve immediately.
Top Tip
Add the frosting to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 5-10 seconds on high and stir. Now you have a perfect consistency for drizzling the frosting over the crescents.
