Pumpkin Apple Dessert
This recipe is the perfect combination of a pumpkin pie and an apple crisp. I'm combining two of my favorite flavors for Fall into one delicious dessert.
This might just be the easiest dessert you'll ever make. Just mix together the canned pumpkin, chopped apples, and a box of spice cake mix, pour it into a baking dish, and bake for about an hour.

What is the difference between canned pumpkin and pie filling?
Before we start baking, let's talk about something important. I've received a few emails over the past few months regarding pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie filling. Most of the pumpkin recipes you see on this site call for Pumpkin Puree. So what is the difference between the two?
Pumpkin puree is just as the can says, it's cooked, pureed pumpkin. Nothing has been added to it. On the other hand, pumpkin pie filling is pumpkin flavored with spices such as cinnamon, clove, allspice, and ginger. There's also sugar added to pumpkin pie mix.

Serving Tips
This easy recipe is delicious warm from the oven but you may want it to cool down just a bit so you can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or freshly made whipped cream.
Storage Instructions
Refrigerate: Leftover pumpkin apple dump cake can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. To store the cake, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Freezer: The cake can also be frozen for up to three months. Wrap well in plastic wrap then a layer of foil.
Thaw and Reheat: When you are ready to eat the cake, thaw it in the fridge overnight and then reheat it in the oven or microwave.
Top Recipe Tips
Make sure to spread out the cake mix so there are not large mounds on top of the apples.
Sometimes, no matter how well you think you’ve distributed the cake mix, you’ll see clumps starting to form. Take a fork and break up any clumps, then return the cake to the oven to continue baking.
Prepare the cake ahead of time by leaving it covered in the refrigerator. Bake it an hour or so before you plan on serving it.
